Performance full of glitter

09 Dec, 2009 03:08 PM
The inside of the Palais Theatre could have been mistaken for the streets of an Arabian city last week as the students glittering in gold and silver performed their own version of “Aladdin”, a Disney classic, to two very appreciative audiences on Thursday and Friday November 26 and 27.

With 150 people in the cast several dances comprised more than 60 students at once, which left the audience wondering exactly what was going to happen next, as students circumnavigated the aisles with well-drilled precision and flags flew as “Aladdin Katie and Abu - Jorja Griffiths” arrived in Agrabah.

With the help of the Genie, Tayla Martin, Jasmine - Angie McDougall, The King - Jess Williams and the very mean Jaffar - Tayler McBrien, the story was woven in and out of dances to finally reach the happy ending that everyone desired. The hero got the girl.

These performances capped off a great year for the students who have been a delight to teach and who have worked hard to get to this point. They have learnt about sharing and caring and working as a team.

With guest appearances from the ever -popular Mark Bartolo, pharmacist by day, Austen Powers by night, Lyn Webster who got the crowd stomping, Brad Toole who raised the roof on Thursday in his doctor role, Tyson Deebank as Mini Me thrilled the audience also.

Unfortunately Dr Brown had an emergency and could not make it in time but thanks for trying JB.

Many thanks must be extended to the wonderful but small costume committee who assisted the teacher in obtaining and organising costumes, to an outstanding result and to the parents and friends one and all who helped out in any way to make this large production come to fruition.

The three members of the Parents’ Committee Wendy, Jenny and Neralie did copious amounts of work and the studio is very grateful for their continuing support of our efforts.

Thankyou to those who donated goods for the Parents Committee’ raffle, IGA, Murphy’s Hardware and Foodworks, with proceeds going to purchase costume items for the students. Thanks to Keiran and Cathy at Bogan Shire and Steph and Kevin and Bonnie at Nyngan Innovations for their help and support.

Thanks so much to the audience who supported the students by attending and we look forward to seeing you all again next year. Best wishes to everyone for the festive season and 2010 and congratulations to the students who worked so hard and did a fantastic job.
