Don’t dump it recycle it: Girl guides e-waste message

03 Mar, 2010 01:49 PM
Girl Guides across Australia have partnered with Clean Up Australia to recycle old mobile phones.

Electronic waste or e-waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the country; growing at three times the rate of other rubbish streams.

There are an estimated 21 million mobile phones in Australia or about one for every person in this country.

With the average person replacing their mobile phone every 12 to 24 months, there are millions of old mobile phones that are left unused or are discarded to landfill.

By donating your mobile phone, you will be helping Girl Guides and Clean Up Australia increase the rate of phone recycling above the current 3 per cent.

Along the way you will also help the Girl Guides earn $1.50 for every phone recycled.

So look through your cupboards for all of those old phones and get your friends and work colleagues to do the same.

Keep an eye out for the mobile phone drop-off points placed in local businesses throughout Nyngan.

A free postal satchel is available at the collection points for those who may

prefer to post directly to the Girl Guide Recycling Program.
