 Farewell Year 12

Farewell Year 12

07 Oct, 2009 03:12 PM
On Tuesday September 29 Year 12 visited the Mick Glennie Hostel and the hospital.

The girls provided morning tea for the residents and patients and had a delightful time listening to the stories of when they went to school.

It was a truly special time to see the smiles on the faces of everyone who participated in this activity. Year 12 thanks the Mick Glennie Hostel and the hospital for the privilege of spending some time with the residents and patients.

On Tuesday evening Year 12 participated in a church service organised by the Uniting Church. Hannah Bandi, Angela McDougall, Angela Pumpa and Katie White read the prayers for Australia, the school, our families and for children and young people in need. We thank Mr Colin Pardy, Mr Richard Milligan and Mr Ray Donald for their readings and words of support.

The lovely Uniting ladies then provided us with a beautiful supper.

On Wednesday afternoon the competitiveness of Year 12 (and their teachers) emerged at the traditional ‘bowls arvo’.

Kelly and Mrs Radburne defeated Cass and Mr Cav, Estelle and Mrs Smith defeated Ange and Miss Roots, Monique and Miss Lipman defeated Katie and Miss Lidster and Hannah and Mrs B defeated Angie and Mr Fox. A challenge match has been set up after the HSC for Kelly and Mrs Radburne and Hannah and Mrs B.

We will let you know the date as tickets will sell fast. The best-dressed bowlers for the afternoon went to Ange Pumpa (Prim) and Miss Roots (Proper) dressed in their matching green shirts and of course colour co-ordinated clothing. Thank you to Nyngan Bowling Club for kindly proving a scrumptious barbecue.

Later on Wednesday evening, Year 12 visited many teachers where they ‘borrowed’ many of their belongings, which were to be auctioned back to them the next day.

On Thursday morning Year12, their parents and teachers met at the Buchanans to have brekkie and listen to their stories of the night before.

A big thanks to Dave and Pat and Veronica Bourke for getting them all fed and watered. However, something very valuable was ‘borrowed’ from the Buchanans for the auction...their son Jack.

So at the auction the staff of Nyngan High School generously dipped into their pockets so they could have their precious belongings returned (especially Jack). Year 12 raised $450 from the staff. This money will be distributed to Yarrabin and the hospital in mid- November.

During the day of Thursday October 1, Year 12 spent their day making themselves beautiful for their formal dinner that night. Ms King, Jarred Jeffery, Brenna Ah-See, Samantha Keen, Krystal Tyack, Britt Martin, Mrs B, Dave and Jack set up the Nyngan Golf Club.

The venue looked absolutely spectacular, the food provided by the Nyngan Golf Club ladies was absolutely delicious, the mud cake made by Judy Stimpson was very yummy, the entertainment provided by Tim and Leonie Ryan was outstanding and the friendly service provided by the Nyngan Golf Club ensured Year 12 2009 had the time of their lives. One of the many highlights of the evening was Estelle’s dedication to her father, James; the song ‘I’m too sexy for my shirt’, could only be seen to be believed.

The last event for Year 12 2009 was their formal assembly, which was held on Friday. As is tradition at Nyngan High School, students from each stage address Year 12 and explain to the assembly the impact Year 12 has had on them and provided them with best wishes for their futures.

This was done so perfectly by Tayla Martin, Damian Lewis, Samantha Keen and Britt Martin. Mrs B then gave her year advisor’s address that ended with a story to Year 12 called ‘Oh the places you will go.’

There were then two brilliant tributes presented to Year 12. Krystal Tyack put many hours of work into a spectacular PowerPoint presentation, which chronicled Year 12’s life to date.

Warren Blake then showcased his talent by singing a heartfelt song to the girls.

Kystal and Warren, we thank you wholeheartedly for making Year 12’s final assembly so special.

Estelle Strachan and Katie White then gave the Year 12 response where they presented Mrs B with a beautiful photo of themselves signed and framed from the night before.

Mr Sonntag then delivered the principal’s address, which provided much insight and food for thought for Year 12’s future professions.

The leadership succession was another highlight where the captains for 2009-2010 were announced.

Jordan Lane and Cassie Healey will be the Captains and Brenna Ah-See and Hayley Lane the Vice Captains.

Year 12’s final roll call saw them leave the school gym for the last time. This was done with much emotion and relief.

It signified an absolutely exhausting but definitely worthwhile time and experience for our girls.

It is now time for them to carefully revise their work, do past exam papers and seek assistance from their teachers before the HSC starts on October 20.

Thanks for the memories and best wishes for your HSC and all future endeavours.
