Fun in the park

15 Apr, 2010 10:36 AM
For the past five years, a group from Sydney known as StormCo has visited during the Easter school holidays and this year they’re back again.

StormCo is a group of people committed to making a difference in communities throughout Australia.

There are 38 people on the team this year getting involved in serving the community in a number of ways such as Kids Club in the morning, and youth activities called Wildlife in the afternoon.

“We love visiting Nyngan each year and have the best time hanging out with all sorts of people in the town,” member of the StormCo team Lara Steele said.

The team enjoyed visiting some of the churches in Nyngan for their Sunday services and played football on the oval with a few local friends before preparing for the activities that started on Monday.

“Monday was a huge success for our team with over 100 children attending Kids Club in the morning and over 50 youth at Wildlife that afternoon” Kids Club leader Tiana Donaldson said. The team then danced the night away with the Nyngan Social Club.

“It’s great coming back each time and continuing to build on relationships that we’ve made over the past five years,” Lou McNeill, who is on his fifth StormCo trip to Nyngan, said.

Many laughs have been had at every activity whether it’s the clowns at Kids Club, playing footy with the youth at Wildlife or dancing at the RSL but there is a more serious side to the StormCo team.

“StormCo stands for Service To Others Really Matters and that is the goal of every visit we make to Nyngan,” co-leader of the team this year Daniel Marsden said. “Nyngan is a welcoming community and as long as they welcome StormCo, StormCo will provide.”

For those that are interested, the Kids Club is run from 9am to 11am in O’Reilly Park and Wildlife youth activities are on the oval from 2pm to 4pm. Both will be run until this Friday, April 16.

Also on Friday at 12.30pm is the StormCo community sausage sizzle, so come and enjoy some free food and good company at O’Reilly Park.
