Hanlons win $10,000

18 Nov, 2009 03:24 PM
Long-time Nyngan rugby league supporters Mick and Vicki Hanlon are $10,000 richer after winning first prize in the 300 club.

A big crowd was on hand at the Overlander on Friday night for the draw.

Everyone was in good spirits with plenty of food and drink and the chance of a very merry Christmas with $10,000 first prize on offer.

The $100 winners were announced first with 10 lucky winners getting their money back.

They were Matt Woods, Katrina Davies, Nikki Roach, Greg Herbert, Andrew and Alison Kennedy, Peter Lupton, Ken Simpson, Dan Miller, Brendan Smith and Kieran and Rodger Smith.

The two $1000 winners were John Chalker and Don Simpson.

Mick and Vicki Hanlon, who have been buying tickets since the inception of the 300 club, won the big first prize.

The winner of the Canberra jumper signed by Justin Carney was Mick Bush, which has started a bidding war between Ron Finlay, Pete Lupton and John Wynn as the only remaining Canberra supporters in the area since 1990.

I hope the club will see some proceeds from this Michael.

Congratulations to Vicki and Mick and thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket for your continued support.

Good luck next year.

In other news in footy, the format for the WIN challenge, which is the pre-season competition for the western area, has been changed for 2010.

Last year saw clubs from Group 11 face clubs from Group 10, with Nyngan hosting Bathurst Panthers before making the journey to Cowra.

This year will see the western clubs of Cobar, Nyngan and Narromine face soon-to-be Group 14 clubs Coonamble, Gilgandra and Gulgong.

This move is seen as a way to cut down on travel and a good hit-out for clubs in the former Castlereagh Cup competition.

Nyngan spent many years in the Group 14 competition and we look forward to a hit- out on our old stomping grounds.

First things first though, and Nyngan Rugby League would like to call for applications for coaches for first grade, reserve grade and Under-18s as well as trainers, strappers and runners for 2010.

We are encouraging anyone who would like to gain experience and become ticketed in league safe and sport medicine to contact the club, as these positions are essential for our sport.

It can be very rewarding and it is a great way to

be involved in the club.

We have had great support over the years but are always looking for new faces to take up the roles.

Anyone interested can contact Alister or Marty.

We would also like to remind everyone that the AGM will be held on Friday at 7pm at the Overlander.

This is your chance to come and have a say in the club.

Be part of the committee or just come along in support.

We need as many people as possible to attend the AGM - so the more the merrier.
