The Riverside Caravan Park in Nyngan was the venue for the fifth national rally of the Australian CamperTrailers Group, an internet-based special interest group catering for people who share a common interest in camper trailers, travelling or just camping in general.
Over the week some 90 members with families and camper trailers converged on the Riverside Caravan Park which has the necessary
facilities to cater for a group of this size - 90 camper trailers and vehicles and about 230 people.
Group members Kevin Phillips, Rob Sanderson and Ron Dickson worked with the park owners for about 12 months beforehand to ensure that all was in readiness.
And no one was disappointed with the results or the hospitality extended to the group by the park owners and the Nyngan community.
The Australian CamperTrailers Group was formed in 2001 and uses the internet as the medium for members to communicate.
Originally intended as a means of linking people in the Sydney area who share a passion for camper trailers, the group now caters for all types of camper trailers including caravans and slide-ons.
Many members don’t own a camper trailer and use the collective experience of the group to help them find their ideal camper trailer.
The group has more than 4700 members in Australia as well as quite a few internationally.
Membership of the group is free and since its formation more than 56,000 messages have been posted by members.
Nyngan mayor Ray Donald welcomed the group on Sunday night and encouraged members to have fun exploring all Nyngan had to offer.
Members certainly made the most of their stay by exploring the region and sampling the wares and facilities of the local merchants.
The Nyngan gathering was a huge success and is perhaps the largest gathering of camper trailers ever seen in Australia in the one place.
During the week members were able to attend a number of workshops and technical sessions covering subjects such as batteries, solar panels, GPS and radio communications.
Other sessions included tips and techniques for successful camp cooking using Cobb Cookers and Dreampots as well as some fun activities for children.
One of the highlights of the week was a performance by local entertainer Tony Hunt, during which sizable donations were collected for the Nyngan Pre School and the Bogan Community, Tourism and Business Group.
All too soon the week was over with members departing for their homes or travels in other parts of NSW, Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania.
The group wishes to acknowledge Jack and Dione Carter, owners of the Riverside Caravan Park.
Their support made this the best ever national rally the group has held.
And special thanks are extended to the Nyngan community for making them feel so welcome.
