We are members of the Ulysses Club, an organisation for over 40s with a common interest in motorcycles.
Ride for Life is all about raising awareness for the Red Cross Blood Bank and St John Ambulance Service as this is the year of the blood donor.
Our initiative started on September 20 at the Western Sydney Motorcycle Show at Marsden Park and since then we have been travelling all over telling anyone that will listen to us.
One of the main exposure venues to date was at the Sydney Motorcycle Show Homebush on November 20 to 22 where we had great success in getting the word out about the charities.
At just under the halfway point at Albany we will be attending the Ulysses 2010 AGM, it runs from March 8 to March 14.
During our trip we will be calling in at Dubbo, Nyngan, Broken Hill, Port Augusta, Ceduna, Mundrabilla, Norseman, Kalgoolie, Dalwallinu, Xanthippe, Cervantes, Perth, Margaret River, and Albany.
As we pass through each town we will be meeting with members of the police, Red Cross, St John Ambulance Service and having photos and or video taken by the media and the newspapers.
What we are about is telling the public that the Red Cross needs you to donate blood.
They are in a bad way and their stocks are low, and we are taking the police/motorcyclist blood challenge to a national level. Up until now it has only been a NSW push for more blood.
We are also informing the public of the many first aid courses and first aid kits that St John has available for sale.
The main feature of the St John service is their Motorcycle First Aid Course which covers so much and is put across in such a way that it really sinks in.
To actively promote these organisations, we are involving their members at a local level in media releases with local and national coverage to raise awareness.
Our trip has been very well accepted by the regional papers and motorcycle magazines across the country and they have committed to giving us good exposure too.
When we arrive at Albany the Red Cross Blood Bank have there donor centre ready and waiting for the Ulyssians to start walking in the door.
Going on figures of past AGMs they will have thousands arrive at Albany.
Any support provided along the way from businesses will receive media coverage in all our press releases local and national, which will amount to positive advertising across a broad field.
