Last weekend Nelson Salter travelled to Sydney to compete at the NSW Athletics Junior and Youth Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.
He competed in 100 metre, 200 metre and long jump.
This carnival was for athletes aged 12 to 19 years old with the competition coming from Senior Athletics Clubs across NSW.
It was a most challenging carnival for Nelson as he had to compete in under-16 year age group, (he is currently only 13).
However he ran a personal best in his 200 metre race, running a 24.96. He ran fifth in his heat and was the second fastest 14-year-old.
For the 100 metre race he ran a 12.44, slower than his usual time, but still fast enough for him to be the second fastest 14-year-old boy also for the 100 metres.
Based on these results and his results at Australian All Schools Athletics Championships in Hobart last December, Nelson has been contacted by Athletics NSW to inform him that he has now made the NSW Athletics Team for the Australian Athletics Junior and Youth Championships to be held at Homebush in March.
Nelson was also recently contacted by the NSWIS (NSW Institute of Sport), acknowledging his recent results.
Thank you to Nyngan Little Athletics, Jocelyn King and Far West Academy of Sport for all of the support and training you have given Nelson.
