Enthusiastic soccer players travel to Warren

09 Sep, 2009 04:53 PM
Nyngan soccer travelled to Warren on Saturday for the last ‘rostered’ games of the season.

The Mini Blues team had a great game against Warren - drawing 2-all. Goal scorers were Cale Dunn and Nick Monaghan, who scored his very first goal after several weeks of coming close. Well done Nick. Ella Meldrum and Darcy Malone had a great game, working hard all over the field. Lachlan Donnelly and Hamish Carter worked hard as usual, with Lily Meldrum showing more of her new attacking skills. Abby Carter performed well in goals and Millie Smith showed some great new ball skills and confidence. Hamish Donnelly, Jaidyn Wherritt and Naite Holmes continued to show their increased enthusiasm and ability with some consistent tackling and defence. The Blues were surprised by coach Glenn Smith presenting them with medals for their hard work throughout the season. Thanks Glenn.

The Mini Reds had a great game following the first minis game. The whole team played to their best potential narrowly losing 3-1. Xander Wood was the best and fairest for the game playing well as goalie and was great in both attack and defence. Mia Taylor received the Encouragement Award as she never gives up and is always chasing the ball. Evan McMullen, Archie Ray and Tyler Martin all played well in defence and attack as did Max Hoare and Ebony Martin. Kyle Hall played his usual consistent game - also scoring the team’s only goal.

The Mids team had a great game against Warren winning 5-1 with goal scorers for the day being Hamish Wye with two goals, Jordon Rufus, Liam Wherritt and Shelby Dunn all with one goal apiece. Player of the Week went to Brynn Hoare who had his best game of the year. After a couple of losses in the past two weeks it was great to see everyone pull together to put in one of their best performances this year. A mention has to go to Riley Malone, Ryan Collins, Kaleb Holmes, Hamish Wye and Shelby Dunn who kept trying all game and with a lot of missed opportunities on Warren goal the score could have been a lot higher. A big thank you to all the parents who travelled to watch the game and it will be great to see you again next week in Cobar.

Nyngan Seniors had a great turn up with all rostered players attending as well as a few supporters that were not rostered on for that week. Warren proved a challenge with the final score not reflecting the amount of work they put in to keep Nyngan from attacking with the score finishing in favour of Nyngan 6-2. In the first quarter Oliver Hoare scored from a goal well set up by Nathan Shone and John Menzies. This goal was followed up by Ben Harris in the second quarter. A penalty in the first half to Nyngan in the second quarter was well defended by the Warren players with the scoreline 2-1 in Nyngan’s favour at half- time.

In the second half the Seniors lead was further cemented by goals from Zara Hoare, Jacob Carter, John Menzies and Jayden Bonello with Warren scoring one more from a penalty. The players of the match were Zara Hoare and Conor Ryan. Nyngan have proved themselves a force to be reckoned with in the Zone this year with some great results and continued great sportsmanship.

It will be interesting to see how well they can match the Cobar teams next weekend.

Saturday 12th will see ALL players (and teams) travel to Cobar for the Zone Gala day which will wrap up the season of junior soccer for 2009.

Training will be as usual on Thursday for the final time and if your unable to attend Cobar - please advise your coach ASAP.

The club’s presentation day is set down for Saturday September 19 and further information will be sent via the newsletter. See you then.
