The Hermidale Gymkhana will again be held on Easter Sunday, April 4, at the Hermidale Sports Ground.
A wonderful day is assured for all with events being run to suit everyone’s taste.
This gymkhana was once just horse sports, riding classes, hacks, show jumping and sporting events, but now it has progressed to being a Family Fun Day as well and many more enjoyable and amusing items have been added to the program.
The idea to hold a gymkhana at Hermidale first originated in 1939 and a meeting was convened by the late Mr Malachi Woodlock, and the idea took hold and the first sports were held on what was known as “The Old Farm’ which had a race track.
Nowadays of course Hermidale has a wonderful sports ground and buildings to accommodate all.
The originators of the Hermidale Gymkhana were, to name a few, the late Mr Malachi Woodlock, Mr Hartley Dewhurst, Mr ABC Dutton, Mr Paul Korsch and Mr Bill O’Neill.
Somehow over all these years it has managed to keep going, although there was a break of a few years when a change took place from January 1 to some of the cooler months and office bearers were hard to come by.
We are very grateful to Rodney Robb who was the instigator of starting the gymkhana up again, and all seemed to agree that Easter Sunday was an ideal time to hold it.
Also grateful to Roy Cooney for being president.
So, here we are in 2010 preparing for theis great day.
Please all come along.
