Nyngan to host state showjumping

09 Feb, 2012 09:54 AM
Nyngan Pony Club has started early in 2012 in preparation for a big year, which will include hosting the Pony Club State Showjumping Championships in July.

Many of our members will be keen to notch up qualifying performances during the next few months for this event, which will be significant for Nyngan. The club will need all hands on deck to ensure it runs smoothly.

Unfortunately at the end of January we lost one of our most influential members, Peter Dutton OAM, who had been involved with the club for 50 years. Peter helped found the club in 1961 and had been at various times chief instructor, president and most recently a life member.

He was a life member of the Pony Club Association of NSW and formerly the NSW Chief Instructor. Peter and Mary were both awarded Order of Australia medals for their contribution to the pony club movement.

No one was more excited than Peter when Nyngan was awarded the right to host the state showjumping and he was busy making plans for it. Nyngan Pony Club will miss him immensely and our thoughts are with Mary, our long-serving chief instructor, and their family who have all been valuable pony club members.

One of Peter’s last duties at pony club was to oversee the instigation of two new life members - Rodney and Wendy Robb, who were presented with their badges at the 2011 club presentation in December.

The Robb’s have also had a lengthy association with Nyngan Pony Club and remain actively involved when time permits. Their granddaughter Ally Robb was also made an honorary member of the club and it is hoped she, and her cousins (the fourth generation of the Robb family at pony club), can also be involved in the future.

The 2011 showjumping poinstcore winners were: A Grade: Lizzie Hoy; B Grade: Pippa Manton; C Grade: Victoria Hoy; D Grade; Maddison Harley and Alex McLaughlin; E Grade: Jack McLaughlin; F grade: Klara Norris.

The eventing pointscore winners were: A Grade: Lizzie Hoy, C Grade: Annabelle Hoy and E Grade: Heidi Stokes.

Lizzie Hoy was awarded the Elaine Johnson Trophy for rider of the year; Catherine Bolam was junior clubperson and Abigail McLaughlin was the senior clubperson.

In other competition results, Maddison Harley won the D Grade ODE at Coonabarabran in December and also placed in the C grade combined training. Nyngan was well represented at the event with Maddison Harley, Ina Stiener, Amy Motley, Jack, Alex and Lucy McLaughlin and Heidi and Holly Stokes all competing. Nevertire Pony Club had a twilight jumping evening in January attended by Lizzie, Annabelle and Victoria Hoy, and Jack, Alex and Lucy McLaughlin.

The 2012 pony club annual general meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 8 at the Nyngan Pony Club Clubhouse starting at 6pm. Members will be able to sign up for 2012 from 5pm.
