Golfers turn out for ambrose

18 Nov, 2009 03:39 PM
The early start on Sunday morning attracted a healthy field of 22 players. The game was a two-person ambrose with meat trays for the winners.

I’m pretty sure that it was Ron Finlay’s first competition game here and he teamed up with Mono to finish with a 27 nett for the nine holes which is a very good score, almost in the Tiger category.

Also with a good score were the runners-up Don Lister and Peter Murphy with 28 nett.

The other ball winners were Ron Monaghan and Tim Tulenew with 28.5 nett and Brendan Smith and Alan Holmes on 28.88 nett. The pins went to Brendan and Robert Read.

The afternoon game was a 4-ball and the main prize went to Steve Eckhart and Barry Howell with 24 points, the pin went to Pat Walsh.

Saturday’s game was a win for Dick Cobcroft with 38 points. He had 23 of those on the first nine but struggled on the back nine and only just held out Barry Howell who had 37 points and a far better back nine than Dick.

The pin went to Mick Hanlon.

Twilight golf is underway and with a group on each nine there should not be any traffic jams.

The ladies had a good roll-up of 10 starters for their mid-week nine holes. The winner was Judy Read with 20 points, the ball competition winners were Lyn Armstrong and Rhonda Holmes.

The pin winner on the 12th was Rhonda.

The badge draw didn’t go off so someone else has a chance to win about $1000 this Thursday night. Also the meat draws at the usual time between 7.30pm and 8pm.
