Taig secures win for team with great play on 18th

25 Jun, 2009 09:29 AM
Saturday’s golf was a 4B par, always a popular event and there were 22 players in the field. After many attempts and lots of near misses the team of Peter Rees and Erica Taig finally broke through for a win. They had a score of +10 which included a washout on the 7th hole. Both Peter and Erica shared the plusses on an even basis. Erica sealed the win when she scored a four for a plus on the difficult 18th hole.

In second place with a score of +10 as well were Barry Howell and Pat Walsh but they couldn’t match the winners on the 18th hole and had to be satisfied with second place.

There was another tie for third and fourth place both teams having +9 and they were Steve Lennox and Dick Cobcroft and Ron and Guy Monaghan. Pin winners for the day were Anthony Ah-See, Steve Lennox and Col Pratt.

Sunday saw 15 players contest a stableford event and once again the ladies proved too smart for the men when Rhonda Holmes got the winners cheque in a three-way countback over Roydon Donohoe and Ozzie Smith all with 38 points. Rhonda’s chip-in on the 17th hole made the difference. Pin winners were Adrian and Luan Hawley and Barry Howell. Looking over past records Chook and Barry have won heaps of NTP prizes, must be ability and not luck.

The club is once again indebted to Glen Neill and his crew who spent most of Sunday clearing up some of the eyesores on the course and also to Mick, Steve, Codge, Tex, Lewie and any others who chipped in with their labours.

Next weekend is the Nyngan Open. The first event on Saturday will be a 4BBB medley stableford, starting at midday and on Sunday the open over 27 holes, starts at 8am. Cost is $30 which includes golf and all meals.

Badge draw this week is $500, draw is around 7.30pm in conjunction with the meat raffles.

Five players went to Bre for their open with Brendan Whaley being runner-up in the 18 hole scratch and the ladies went to Tottenham with Mandy Martin winning the Open and Sandra Beetson winning a swag of prizes.
