Charity the winner at local bowls day

01 Oct, 2009 11:23 AM
Our major event for the week took place on Saturday afternoon with 66 participants taking to the greens in an array of pink colour that would make anyone proud.

Not as many as last year, but it was a very busy weekend in our little town, so we feel lucky with the number that graced our greens.

In excess of $6000 was raised for the McGrath Foundation and a happy, fun day with lots of laughter and giggles was had by everyone.

Many thanks to the major sponsors, Khans IGA and Tritton Mines, and to all other persons who donated items, gave their time and to the organisers.

A big thank you to the club, management, staff - paid and volunteer - and to those persons who bid at the auction, every bit helps to fight this insidious disease that attacks both women and men. Winner of the day - The McGrath Foundation

First runner-up: Wright, Morison and Reynolds.

Second runner-up: Smith, Carney and Vane.

Results for the past week are:

Golden Oldies Tuesday winners: Jim McGirr and Michael McGlynn.

Wednesday winners: Andrew Reynolds, Mary Millar and John Quee

Friday winners: Rex Vane, Haley Lane and John Quee.

Sunday winners: Debbie Vane and Jenny Parry

Runner-up: Ron Smith and Eric Nipperess

Other events: Men’s semi finals played on September 24, handicap singles - Les Bexon defeated Moo Thornton 31-20.

Semi-final handicap pairs - Darrell Anderson and Moo Thornton defeated Don Smith and Bill Barrow.

On Sunday, Rex Vane defeated Andrew Reynolds in consistency.

First round of the semi-finals in the Championship Fours was played on Friday evening with Latisha Waterhouse, Jenny Chalker, Helen Beetson and Jenny Parry playing against Mary Arandale, Deb Vane, Liz Wynne and Melissa Arandale.

The game got away at 5.40pm with the Parry team getting out of the blocks to a good start.

It was pretty even up to the 12th end then the Arandale team got a couple of multiple shots and this kicked the team ahead.

The ladies had a great game and the end result really didn’t denote the bowls that were played. Winner on the night was the Arandale team.

The second round of the fours needs to be played by October 14 and that is between Mary Millar’s team and Alison Hampstead’s team.

On Thursday a team of four will play in the Cameron Bowl at Warren. Check the board for play dates for championship games and for any invitations and tournaments coming up.

There is a new starting time for bowls on Wednesdays, please take note: names in by 2pm and play to start at 2.30pm.

Raffle seller this week is Teresa Rose and on Wednesday October 7 it is Leonie Ryan.

Remember, if you are unavailable arrange with someone to take your place.

Congratulations to the incoming board of directors of the Nyngan Bowling Club, headed by chairperson Tom O’Neil and the new president of the Nyngan Bowling Club Ron Smith and his board for 2009-2010.

Last but not least, to those persons that “borrowed” the garden hoses from the bowling club, this is your chance to return them, no questions asked.

We have CCTV not only in the club but also around the club outside. The pictures are very clear.
