Classic Pairs event played

Results of bowls played on the weekends of October 4 and 11.

This week ended with the running of the Bogan Classic Pairs tournament, which is held over three days.

This is the prestige tournament on the men’s calendar for the year, with five sections of six pairs playing to win the section.

The winners of the section and the next three best pairs went into the playoff on Sunday afternoon, winners played in the semi- final on Monday morning and the final that afternoon.

The first two days were 15-end games and Monday 21 ends.

Bowlers came from Wagga, Lightning Ridge, Cobar, Orange, Halekulani and Nyngan.

Section winners and next best three:

Adam Lee - Nyngan

John Chalker - Nyngan

Dave Arnoult - Halekulani

Jim Chalker - Wagga

Chris Cooney - Cobar

Rick Jermyn - Nyngan

John Wynne - Nyngan

Kevin Rosser - Wagga

The semi-final on Monday morning was played between Adam Lee and Rex Vane verses father and son duo Adam and Rick Jermyn, the winners - Lee and Vane.

The other game was between another father and son duo of Pat and John Wynne verses Dave Arnoult and his partner Kevin from Halekulani, the winners - the Wynnes.

It was a unique semi with three teams from Nyngan contesting. The final was played in the afternoon with the winners of the tournament the duo of Lee and Vane.

This is the second year that a Nyngan duo has won the final.

Congratulations must go to the incoming bowls board and the outgoing board for the smooth running of this event, to management, staff and volunteers and especially to the greens staff who did an excellent job.

Also on Monday the Presidents Open Consultation was played, 14 pairs fronted to play five games of seven ends. Winners on the day were Deb Vane and Liz Wynne and the runners-up Kevin and Andrew Reynolds.

Golden Oldies winners - Ron Sullivan and Keith White.

Wednesday winners - Mary Millar and Ron Smith, runners-up - Rick Pitt and Frank Walsh.

Friday chicken run winners - Eric Nipperess and Craig Rodis.

Our men’s Rookie winners Rick Pitt and Mal McBrien with their cheer squad of Mary, Melissa and Annaliese, travelled to Raymond Terrace to contest the NSW Rookies Pairs State final on Sunday October 4. Our boys were in section three and played teams from Wagga RSL, Narooma and Bellambi; they didn’t come out winners but said that the experience was invaluable and they thoroughly enjoyed their games.

During the week the first mixed pairs semi- final was played between Melissa and Wayne Arandale and Deb and Rex Vane, winners - Deb and Rex.

Week 2:

Golden Oldies winners - Kevin Reynolds and John Quee.

Wednesday winners - Ron Smith and Marie Bexon, Runners-up - Alan Tandy and Mary Millar.

Friday chicken run winners - John Quee and Tom O’Neil, runner-up - Andrew Reynolds and Shaun Quee.

Saturday saw Bill Barrow defeat Adam Lee in the consistency.

Sunday chicken run winners were Tom Howard, Paul Williams and Eric Nipperess.

The second semi- final of the mixed pairs was played between Adam Lee and Tayla Conway verses Di Wynne and Rick Jermyn, winners Adam and Tayla.

They will meet Rex and Deb in the final. Andrew and Kevin Reynolds played John Chalker and Tom O’Neil in the handicap pairs with the Reynolds boys winning on the day.

Aristocrat sponsored the bowls this Sunday with first place to Bill Barrow and Mary Millar, second Phil Gibson and Marie Bexon, third Kevin Reynolds and Brian Stephens and fourth Melissa Arandale and Adam Glover.

Tuesday the ladies travelled to Narromine for Presidents

Day and were winners of the day. President Alison, Deb, Marie and Deanna played a versatility day of singles, pairs, triples and fours.

The only game they didn’t win was the fours. Well done ladies. The final of the Ladies Triples was played on Wednesday between Mary A, Joy and Melissa against Jenny C, Alison and Tayla. This year’s winners are Mary, Joy and Mel. Congratulations.

The second semi- final in the ladies fours was played between Ronda, Betty, Joy and Mary M verses Di, Deanna, Yvette and Alison, winners on the day was team Millar.

These ladies played the Arandale team in the final. Twilight bowls nomination form is on the board and is filling up quickly. It is to start on October 20, games to be played on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
