Nyngan junior netball travelled to Gilgandra on Saturday morning for a very successful day of high quality netball.
The under-14s got the day under way with a 35-27 win over Coona Blue. This was a good result for these girls who have been coming together over the past few weeks.
Our under-12s and 16s were off next with both sides scoring convincing wins.
Injury and illness left only five under-16 girls fit to take the court but they were ably assisted by three eager under -14s who stepped up to play. And play they did, easily working in with the older, well-drilled team to help them to a 53-22 win. Thank you to Emily Bandi, Grace Power and Madelyn Carthew, a great effort.
The under-12s meanwhile accounted for Gill 26-5. Coach Karen Hawley said the girls were starting to come together quite well and were playing some good netball.
Fatigue may have been a factor in the last game of the day as the under-14s took on Coona Gold in their second game of the day. After a big effort in the first game the girls went down 25-18 in a good game.
Next week we go to Coonamble where only the under-14s and 16s will play against Gilgandra.
Please note that the local netball competition on Thursday afternoons starts at 4pm for the junior division and 5pm for the seniors. Any parents willing to grab a whistle or a score sheet are more than welcome, any help is appreciated.
Also our $10 300 club tickets are due. Please get your tickets in by the end of the week as we wish to do the draw on the 27th. If anyone would like to buy a ticket, please contact Karen Hawley or Marty Carthew.
On Sunday, coach Mark Beetson took his group 14 under-13 rep side to compete in the Dubbo age carnival.
This side consisted of two girls from Coona, one from Baradine, one from Coolah, Grace Power from Cobar and four local girls in Emma Beetson, Maddy Carthew, Emily Bandi and Sophie White.
The girls have been competing in these carnivals throughout the western area in readiness for the State age carnival in Blacktown on July 11.
Taking on sides from Blayney, Bathurst, Mudgee and host side Dubbo in very wet conditions, the girls did extremely well, taking out second place. First place went to Dubbo which the girls went down to in the first game by one point, only to beat them in their second clash 17-2 which is a huge turn around and a big boost for these girls who will compete in division two in Sydney against some of the best young netballers in the State in a few short weeks.
Mark would like to thank all the parents who have endured the cold of Parkes and Orange to the drenching rain in Dubbo. Thanks also to Nan, Nerida Wright, who always sends us away with award-winning cakes and slices to lift the spirits and expand the waistline. It’s a winning formula that we hope will extend to Sydney. So well done girls, good luck and play well, we know you will do us proud.
