2012 is set to be the Year of the Bogan Bull as the rugby club kicks off the new season with all the momentum and enthusiasm that saw 2011 finish as the most exciting and promising year in recent memory.
Last week’s AGM saw life member Bruce Cleaver re-elected as president supported by Rob Kennedy, Roger Sheather and Jimmy Wells-Budd as vice-presidents.
Sponsorship opportunities are now available with the 2012 player’s jersey guaranteed to feature regularly in local media and online as was seen during the 2011 season.
With the regular season starting in just nine weeks and player jerseys ready for printing, any businesses keen to be associated with the Bogan Bulls is advised to contact the club promptly.
Premiership-winning player Doug Holmes will be returning as head coach in 2012 assisted by club captains Brett Moody and Bubba Perry.
After sitting out 2011 due to knee surgery, Bubba is sure to make an impression running onto the paddock as a Bogan Bull having spent the off season tuning his body to perfection employing a regimen of yoga, raw chicken and creative dance.
With some promising new talent attending the meeting keen to join the returning veterans, the player roster for 2012 will have depth not seen for many years and is sure to build on the exceptional return to form that was the 2011 season.
Followers of the Bulls will recall that Warren, Brewarrina and Cobar all fell victim to the Nyngan boys last year with finalists Coonamble and Gulargambone both stating that the Bulls were the toughest opponents they’d encountered in the regular season.
The 2012 season will launch on April 14 with a demonstration match against the Nyngan Barbarians, a motley crew of mercenaries made up of whippet-fast uni students mixed with dirty and deceptive veterans.
The game will be followed by one of the club’s legendary post-match parties open to all fans, supporters and opposing players - a tradition that highlights the social side of rugby union.
Training for the Bulls kicks off at Larkin Oval this Friday at 6.30pm - new players are always welcome.
If you’ve always wanted to try rugby but have been unsure of the rules - a few training sessions and you’ll be an expert in bush footy.
