Bogan Bulls too good for Rams

25 Jun, 2009 10:26 AM
The Bogan Bulls continued their return to form in their match against the Walgett Rams last Saturday. Under the inspired captaincy of Dave Donald the Bulls were on the attack from the starting whistle. The weeks of rucking drills paid off with Nyngan pushing to be first across the line but were unable to ground the ball against a strong ‘hold-up’ defence. The Rams took possession and made a quick try before Nyngan went on the attack. Al Deebank broke through the defence beating five defenders to level the score then Andrew Reynolds quickly sprinted across for a second try. The third try in a row saw Nyngan leading 17-5 heading towards half-time but Walgett fought back to 19-17 by the half-time whistle.

The second half was hard fought with Nyngan’s powerful forward pack dominating the scrums while Walgett’s lanky second rowers had the upper hand in the line-outs. The Bulls won scrum after scrum deep in Rams’ territory and crossed the line two more times only to be held up by the Rams’ defenders. Walgett’s supply of fresh reserves kept the pressure on a tiring Nyngan side and managed to take the final score to 41-17.

Nyngan showed they are a team to watch, with every match bringing tighter tactics, stronger plays and more points on the board. Rookie Richard Milligan was again a standout performer who just keeps getting better. Dave, Verno, Dom, Pete, Al, Boodie and Paddy outran everyone on the paddock while the forward pack of Johnny Coy, Shaun, Tony, Will and Tim provided the muscle that drove ruck after ruck over the line.

The team has plenty of room for new and returning players. All are welcome to attend training at 6.30pm on Thursdays at Larkin Oval. Join the team after games and training at major sponsor The Cannonbar Hotel.
