Championships sure to be hotly contested by all who enter races

17 Feb, 2010 02:34 PM
The swimming club will be holding their club championships on Sunday March 7 starting at 1.30pm.

Each child that competes will swim in that age group they are on the day of the carnival. They also need to have had five club swims.

All children eight and over will have to do 50 metre events, this will be followed by our ‘Business House Relay’ and our ‘Dash for Cash’ races.

Last year we had approximately 10 teams enter this event, it is not a race it is a nominated time from each team and the team that comes in closest to their time wins.

The winners last year were the nurses from the hospital Jenny, Lyn, Marg, Maureen and Trish, who came in 0.75sec off their nominated time.

This was a huge effort, rumour has it they may have to be drug tested this year.

The public school led by Mrs Louise Shone put in a good show last year and I have heard Mrs Shone has them in training late in the afternoons. Go girls!

The bankers led by Jody Douglas have been recruiting new team members and Red Waterhouse and his team from the Bogan Shire have been sighted coming out of the water tower.

What have you been up to Red?

Curly Col and Chicken Queen from the ‘Splashers’ have been in training at the pool so this event is turning out to be one not to be missed. The nomination fee is $20 per team.

Following on from the relays we have our male and female ‘Dash for Cash’, prize money for each race is $100. This event was hotly contested last year with Zach Riley and Kyri Martin taking home the prize money.

These races are well worth a look as we have some talented swimmers in town, so if you want to have a swim, have some fun come along, you may take home the prize.

We are hoping this year we may get some new teams, so how about it ambos, police, teachers, footballers etcera.

A barbecue tea will follow on so could all parents please bring along a salad or sweet as this will be a fundraiser for the club.

See you there.
