The trials will be held in Warren on Saturday and Sunday March 6 and 7 starting at 1.30pm on Saturday and finishing at 2pm on Sunday. They are open to all tennis players, male and female, who will turn 12 to 16 years of age in 2010. From the trials a squad of about 15 athletes will be chosen.

“We want to see as many players as possible come along and try out - we’re hoping there’s some great, undiscovered talent out there,’’ FWAS development officer, Matthew Thompson said.

“It will be a great two days, you will receive quality coaching, and you just never know where it could lead, so we’re encouraging everyone to just have a go.”

Selected players will receive some of the most modern and professional coaching programs available. The 2010 program will include training weekends and a tour to Broken Hill in June, and participation in the Tottenham, Coonabarabran and Gunnedah Junior Tournaments. In addition members of the Tennis Program will be competing in the Academy Games in Armidale for the first time.

Tennis NSW senior community tennis officer - Northern NSW and FWAS Tennis head coach, Ken Wray is looking forward to the trials.

“There were over 30 players who attended the 2009 trials and I hope to see even more players at these trials,” Mr Wray said. “I conduct regular tennis development tours in the Far West and I believe that there are some very talented athletes and I encourage them to attend as it will only make them better players. The opportunities are there for athletes if they are willing to take up the challenge and be apart of the Academy.”

Mr Thompson said the Academy is also seeking community interest from coaches/managers to be involved in the 2010 tennis program.

“We enjoy having local people involved with our programs to provide sports development opportunities to the talented athletes in the Far West,” he said.

“The FWAS looks forward to providing opportunities to talented tennis players in the Far West and nurturing the next generation of elite tennis players.”
