The service outreaches to Warren and Cobar. Current part-time employees are manager Debbie Roach and family worker Cristene Bartley.
Home-Start supports families with children birth to eight years of age providing: home visiting, parent groups, supported playgroups, parent and child groups, parenting programs - Play Power, Triple P, Wellbeing and Nutrition - Eat, Move Live project and Early Literacy programs - Birth to Kindergarten.
The service refers families on for extra support and can assist them in accessing such.
Home-Start strives to deliver quality and culturally sensitive services; supporting all families from various backgrounds, countries and culture.
The Home-Start House offers drop in/centre-based meetings and a baby change and feeding space for families.
Home-Start participates and often leads in community activities and events for children and families.
Moving to new premises (from a secluded office) into a bright sunny house has given Home-Start a greater visibility and credibility in its role and achievements in the community.
Home-Start Western Area Inc acts as auspice for Child and Family Support Groups (Nyngan and Warren) and for the Nyngan Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Collective funding.
The house at 50 Cobar St allows Home-Start to provide shared office space for the Co-ordinator of the Nyngan Community Hub (a FaCS Community Services funded project auspiced by Red Cross).
This service is not Red Cross. The Community Hub’s aim is to provide information, referral, and assistance to the target groups of Aboriginal and economically disadvantaged families and individuals.
The role of the hub’s co-ordinator Di Brooks is to engage with and connect people to services and the community. To provide social inclusion and participation opportunities; particularly for those who would not normally be involved.
The Contact Inc Building Links Project also operates from the Home-Start House. This position is one day per week (Tuesday). The project is funded by FaHCSIA ($24,000 p.a). Project officer is Debbie Roach. The project works closely with early childhood agencies in determining gaps in services and working toward improvement. The project also offers training for up-skilling of staff.
The project covers the five LGAs where the Bogan Bush Mobile holds its playgroup sessions and that service is a major partner.
During the last year the project has achieved success by having discussions with Dubbo Community Oral Health service and Royal Far West.
Inviting representatives from the two services together with the Child & Family Support Groups in Nyngan and Warren; oral health services have been accessed by some of our most disadvantaged children; and there are plans for Royal Far West to provide more services locally.
Nyngan residents will be able to view the Royal Far West Care Mobile in February 2013; ask questions and have input into what you would like to see provided in the future. Watch this space.
The Home-Start House is occupied most days and is available for visits etc. There may be occasions that all workers are out and about.
Members of the community are welcome to come and see where we are and learn more about what we do.
All that we do in our roles working from the Home-Start House is for the betterment and wellbeing of the community!
