The foursomes championship for 2013 was the highlight of the golfing week. No doubt that it’s the hardest game of all , but can be a lot of fun with an understanding partner. Champions this year and their first to date are Graham Tomoki and John Wynn with 156 gross for 36 holes, not bad on a very heavy course. They had an 80 off the stick in the AM round for a slender lead, then put a gap in the field with their 76 in the PM round for a well-deserved win. Just one double bogey all day for them.
Runners-up with 169 gross were Allan Holmes and Tony Lewis. At half-time, being only two behind, they fancied their chances but they took an eight on the very first hole after lunch and things didn’t get any better having 48 for the nine holes. Their dreams were shattered. Handicap honours went to Don Lister and Warren Murray with 144 net. Unlike the championship winners they were a fair way behind at half-time after having 94 off the stick. Their afternoon round was a beauty, slashing 14 strokes off their morning effort, despite a triple bogey on the 15th. Runners-up with 145 nett were Peter Murphy and Ozzie Smith with 145 nett. Their horror was the par five river hole, taking a 10. You would not believe the trouble they got into.
Pin winners for the day were Boots, Murph, Tex and Chook.
Over the day’s play the most popular score winner was an eight had by many players several times. The ladies played a stableford. The winning scores were 33 points by Mandy Martin, 30 points by Mim Pateman and 26 points by Rhonda Holmes.
Next weekend there is a stableford on Saturday; the men have a two-person ambrose on Sunday. The ladies have their foursomes championship over 27 holes on Sunday with a 10.30am start.
Badge draw on Thursday night is for $1700 and the Joker draw on Saturday night is for $1000.
