It was a delightful afternoon, commencing with a scrumptious meal.
President Mary welcomed our special guests, the Western Group president Brenda Carter, treasurer, Lee Thornton and executive representative Ruth Hando.
Brenda reviewed some historic facts about Nyngan CWA.
The CWA organisation commenced in 1921, with the Nyngan Branch being formed shortly after in 1923.
The present CWA rooms were built and opened in 1940 for a cost of 123 pounds and 12 shillings.
The beautiful birthday cake, made by Mary and decorated by Gladys Eldridge was cut by life member Betty Jackson and one of our patrons Jean Giles.
A highlight of the afternoon was the surprise presentation of 20-year Long Service Bars and 50-year Long Service Medallions to various members.
Mary Lamph, Beverley Strang and our two patrons Edna Jacques and Jean Giles were the very worthy recipients of the 50-year Long Service Medallions.
Eleven other members received their 20-year Long Service Bars.
Certificates of Appreciation were received by a further six members, all well-deserved.
Unfortunately Edna Jacques was unable to attend the celebration, but was thrilled to receive her award from Brenda, who met her at the hostel after the event.
A big thank you to Di Hughes and helpers, Gai Lister and Mary, who decorated the tables and room very attractively for the occasion and to the friendly staff at the Outback Motor Inn, who helped make the afternoon most enjoyable
With 37 current members, Nyngan CWA is set to continue its fine tradition of service to the local community and beyond.
A strong contingent of Nyngan CWA members and supporters attended the Far West Group Cultural Day at Hermidale last week.
Under Val Smith’s guidance, a group of us had great fun presenting a little play, Definitely Not Goldilocks to a stunned audience.
Bay Lovett showed her true colours and talent with a rendition of a song her daughter Louise had composed, titled Kindness.
As well, four members shared their Boundary Gate poems with the audience and all were well-received.
Hermidale CWA members are to be congratulated on their outstanding co-ordination of the day, including the provision of delicious food and their very humorous and enjoyable performances.
Nyngan CWA next meets on Friday, September 6 at 1.30pm. Potential members are most welcome to attend.
