BlushPunk Productions, producers of upcoming Australian feature film Chasing Jon - follows one woman’s journey through love, loss, hope and life.
It is a coming-of-age story about a woman with aspirations of a music career who takes inspiration from global rock icon Jon Bon Jovi and finds the courage to follow her dreams.
The bus departed Brisbane Tuesday August 13 and made the journey to Broken Hill, chasing talented locals, footage for a music video and raising the profile of Brain Injury Awareness Week (August 12 to 18).
Chasing Jon screenwriter and producer Belinda Adams was very keen to promote brain injury awareness while also promoting the film.
“The fact that we were travelling across Australia during Brain Injury Awareness Week made the decision to bang a beanie on our bus even easier”, Ms Adams said.
She is referring to the national ‘Bang On A Beanie’ campaign, run each year by the Synapse (formerly the Brain Injury Association of Queensland).
The campaign aims to raise vital funds and awareness for Acquired Brain Injury, which is estimated to affect more than 1.6 million Australians.
With many more either misdiagnosed or undiagnosed.
Ms Adams own life changed dramatically in 2012 when her son acquired a brain injury following a car accident.
During her son’s ongoing recovery and rehabilitation, Ms Adams realised there simply wasn’t enough support for an issue affecting the lives of so many Australians.
“What better way to raise awareness for an invisible disability than to drive a very visible, big, blue, beanie-wearing bus through part of Australia”, Ms Adams said.
Further admitting that she was inspired by another Australian movie, Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
The bus will make a number of stops along the way before its journey ends in Broken Hill, announcing the winner of a talent quest and recording a music video for Menindee Sky.
People can follow the bus journey and show their support by donating to Synapse on the Everyday Hero’s page.
They can also buy a blue beanie from the bus or at the talent quest finale being held at The Palace on Friday August 16, the same location for parts of the Priscilla movie.
The MC for the night is former Big Brother winner and Broken Hill’s own Trevor Butler.

Menindee Sky has the support of the township of Menindee where we will be shooting the music video on the weekend of August 17-18 2013 and the song will be launched this week. Menindee Sky was written by singer Buzz Talay and screenwriter of Chasing Jon Belinda Adams for the soundtrack.
Ms Adams added, “We will also be shooting a behind the scene’s documentary whilst there to showcase the amazing locations in and around Broken Hill including a tour of the film studios”.
Synapse is the peak national body for Acquired Brain Injury and will be holding numerous events throughout August. Visit www.bangonabeanie.com for more information.
