Ideally, the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends adults enjoy 30 minutes of moderate physical activity five days per week, yet far too many continuously fail to meet this criteria.
It is a growing concern for both younger and older generations and a scenario that can be changed by providing people with room to exercise on their own terms.
In 2012 Bogan Shire Council received Caring for Ageing Rural Australians (CARA) grant funding from FRRR (Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal) and Age-Friendly Community Local Government Grant from LGNSW to purchase outdoor exercise equipment.
This fitness equipment has been installed in Larkin Oval near the netball courts and is freely available to everyone.
The equipment suits those who wish to do all their exercise within one area as well as those who would like to train while passing by.
Exercise can be most enjoyable with your friends and family participating together and the outdoor exercise equipment encourages social interaction while exercising.
X-ERCISE is a great program to develop and stimulate the three main components of health-related fitness.
1. Cardiovascular and aerobic
2. Flexibility
3. Muscular strength
Combining the X-ERCISE training equipment with walking, jogging and balance training would provide the optimal training.
Because the user only uses their own body weight when exercising, it’s safe and gentle on the body - no need for instructors or programs.
All you need is to find your inner playful, attitude; gather family and friends… and make fitness a fun, free walk in the park.
