By a unanimous decision foursomes golf has been declared the hardest game of all. The major problem seems to be trying to put your partner in the perfect spot which seldom works.
This year’s winners had a creditable 150 strokes over the 36 holes.
Anthony Ah-See and Anthony Griffiths came from two shots behind with eight holes to go to snatch a one-stroke victory over Tex Tomek and John Wynne.
The par three holes were crucial to who would be winners more so in the pm round where the Anthony’s had a par on the 14th and 15th plus a birdie on the 13th to wipe out their deficit and take the lead and hold on over the last few holes.
Griffo (a very talented golfer) is a first time winner of the championship and along with Mr R C make up a good combination.
Tex and John hardly put a foot wrong all day but a six on the third hole in their am and pm round was something they could have done without.
Handicap honours went to a new pairing of Tony Lewis and Steve Peterson with 132 nett, their previous partners go under the knife shortly and may not get back into their old team.
All up there were 12 teams and on paper there were half a dozen teams capable of winning, it is a pretty level field. Congratulations to the winners, the rest of us get another chance to topple them next year.
Ball winners were Lewie and Peto obviously then a couple of 135 netts Warren Murray and Ron Monaghan, Croc Read and Pete Murphy and Mr Blister and Dorro on 140 nett.
Pin winners were Tex, Pat Walsh, Dave Bartley and Warren.
Saturday’s event went to Steve Peterson with +5, streets ahead of the improving Dave Buggy +1, followed by Barry Howell square.
Pin winners were Tex and a double to Peto, he had a fair weekend golf wise.
The ladies played for the Jean McChesney Shield and the worthy winners were Margie Spicer and Mim Pateman 65.87 nett.
Their secret to success is that they will not apologise to each other for a bad shot unless they do it on purpose. Runners-up were Jenny Holmes and Dolly Ryan 69.87 nett.
The previous mid-week competition saw Dolly with 39 points, lucky draw winner was Rhonda Holmes.
Next weekend we have a stableford on Saturday and the Con Kourt Shield on Sunday which is a Canadian Foursomes medley select over 18 holes.
Badge draw this Thursday night is for $600.
