The soccer this week was a Gala Day at Bourke. Nyngan Seniors made the trek minus a couple of players who were unable to make it.
Unfortunately, the draw had the Opens playing many of their games at the same time as the Seniors, meaning the coach was half watching, half playing.
Many thanks to Nicole “Postecoglou” Hunt for stepping most capably to assist. Also huge thanks to Steve Bodycott for stepping in at the last minute as a referee.
Most of the day was played in a one game on, one game off system, so the players were exhausted. Nyngan played well and were well served by Kaleb Steptoe - what a dynamic player he is in any position!
All of the Hoare boys were fabulous on the day, Brynn never stopped trying, Max was fabulous even though he was carrying an injury and Jed was, once again, fantastic all over the field.
Katie Boland played well in all games, as did Jade Wye. Reuben is quite enjoying goalkeeping and keeps improving at an impressive rate.
Mel Bodycott gave us great field position with some enormous clearing kicks. Player of the week, Ellita Hunt was strong in defence and never stopped trying all day.
Well done guys!
We are home to Warren this week. Also congratulations to Ellita Hunt, Shianne Klante and Tim Walsh for their selection in the Far West Academy of Sport Football Team.
They travel to Forbes for a Gala Day this Sunday so we wish them well.
Coach Kingsley Hunt
The Opens team was entered as part of the draw in the Bourke Gala Day and as with the Seniors, played plenty of soccer on the day.
Without many talented players, and the different rules played by Bourke, the Opens battled tenaciously against some talented opposition. Matt Steptoe was, as always, sensational in goal and when he decided to have a run.
Keegan never gave up and won more than his fair share of contests on ball.
Matt Cuthbert is showing his true value week after week and Keith Giles is rarely beaten for pace, skill and enthusiasm.
Bernie Bourke had his best game of the season, relishing in the small sided five-a-side FUTSAL format. Nat Stapleton is reliable and played well.
The last game of the day was a hybrid Nyngan Opens and Seniors, 11-a-side vs a combined Bourke Cobar Opens team.
What a fantastic game and a great way to end the Gala Day with many of the Nyngan Seniors really enjoying stepping in to take on the older guys.
All games were played in great spirit and this is a credit to all involved.
Many thanks to Nat who works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that soccer in Nyngan continues to thrive!
