The Nyngan Gala Day was a magnificent display of organisation, skill and sportsmanship.
There was more soccer played than in any other Gala Day this season. Thanks to the Shire for marking out the new field format. Frank Smith Oval had two full-size senior fields, two mids fields and three minis fields.
Seven towns were represented, Nyngan, Bourke, Cobar, Gilgandra, Tottenham, Trangie and Warren with a total of 79 20-minute games being played between 9am and 3pm.
Nyngan Seniors played four strong games against Tottenham, Gilgandra, Trangie and Bourke.
Bailey was brilliant in defence, Kaleb was scintillating in attack and defence and the forward “pack” of Hamish, Jade, Katie, Ellita and Reuben were outstanding. Jade scored a fabulous goal, quickly followed up by Hamish and Ellita coming very close.
Brynn and Jed were very hard to get around all over the field. Max was great in goal. Mel was strong out in the field and had a great game as goalkeeper.
Byron defended well and Shianne was wonderful across the field. While Hamish was declared player of the week, every player played well and did us proud.
As the last soccer report for the year, I would like to take the opportunity to thank each and every player and their families for the fantastic season and their support.
There will be no training this week and a presentation next Saturday.
Also, advance notice for a Football Development Camp to help identify future talented athletes and develop current players.
The Far West Academy of Sport is partnering with Football NSW to bring a Development Camp to Nyngan. It will be held at Frank Smith Oval on September 29 and 30 (9am to 12pm each day) for 10 to 16-year-old boys and girls.
Cost is $25 for one day and $40 for both. Closing date Wednesday, September 24. If you are interested, please contact Kingsley Hunt for a registration form.
The opens were quite a spectacle with the inclusion of many of the registered Nyngan-based Dubbo and FUTSAL players in the Gala Day.
Thank you to Josie Angove, Zoe Angove, (The evergreen) Brian Bonello, Jayden Bonello, Ben Harris, Peter O’Neill, Pat Walsh, Tim Walsh, Liam Wherritt and Zali Wherritt for bolstering the Nyngan numbers.
These players combined well with our regulars and with the other towns to ensure all opens games were 11-a-side on a full field. This is a very exciting addition to the weekly soccer draw and has been very well supported.
As a result, Nyngan dominated the proceedings, but, more importantly, everyone enjoyed themselves. The weather was perfect and the soccer was spectacular.
Thank you to the pioneers of over-14s soccer in the western plains - Bernie Bourke, Matt Cuthbert, Keith Giles, Kaleb Holmes, Keegan Hunt, Kingsley Hunt, Richard Milligan, Jordan Rufus, Stuart Rufus, Nat Stapleton, Matt Steptoe, Jon Wye, Luke Wye and Monique Wye.
Thanks also to the hard-working team behind the scenes - Maryanne Bourke, Cora Milligan, Nat Stapleton, Lachlan Wallace and all of their partners, as well as all families involved.
