Dennis Callaghan from Nyngan Men’s Shed was delighted to receive a cheque for $2,700 on behalf of the organisation.
“The AGL Community Fund grant will be used to upgrade the back shed's electrical system to support new welding bays and we have women’s welding now too,” Mr Callaghan said.
Mr Callaghan said the Men's Shed is an important part of the community and is supported by Beyond Blue.
“It’s about companionship and we welcome new members, male and female. You don't have to do anything, you can come along and have a cup of tea. To become a member, just come in and have a chat with Ron Wilcox or myself.”
The community fund will provide $50,000, in two rounds, to broad-based community initiatives within the local area. Over $28,000 has been awarded in the first round and the second round of funding will be advertised early next year.
Members of the Nyngan Solar Plant Community Consultative Committee also attended the presentation event.
The Nyngan Hospital Auxiliary, which received funding for $3,700, advised that it was possible an additional specialist aged care bed could be purchased for the Mick Glennie Hostel. This means three beds could be used for aged care accommodation.
AGL is delivering the Nyngan Solar Plant in partnership with the Federal Government’s Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), the NSW Government, local council and community, and project partner First Solar.
