One hundred and thirty poll and Merino rams sold to a top of $6000 twice and averaged at 2026, with a further 300 rams delivered privately after the auction to discerning buyers.
Principal George Falkiner was very pleased with the result, particularly as drought is still affecting a portion of the stud’s clientele.
“The average was $206
better than last year which shows clear confidence in the Merino and its reliable returns throughout the year,” he said.
Local woolgrowers, Kevin and Rose Marie Perry, ‘Inverness’, Warren purchased the top-priced Merino for $6000, continuing their consistent flock improvement.
Rams were secured by 35 registered buyers for most
wool-growing areas in eastern Australia and Queensland - bright heavy cutting medium wool rams on large plain frames - with plenty of selection.
The increased interest in Haddon Rig’s Poll Merinos was palpable, attracting Dougal and Susan McLeish, ‘Thurn Merinos’, Coonamble, who took home the $6000 top-priced Poll Merino ram at the sale, to be used as a foundation sire for their own Poll Merino stud.
