With a field of 106 players for the NSW Sand Green Championships, competition for the title was extremely tough. Leading the field after day one was Craig ‘Porky’ Dillon from Cobar with a round of 67 off the stick.
Neil Newton (Walgett) fired an even par round of 68, Tony Lewis was the best-placed local with 70 off the stick.
In the handicap section Greg Bowkett (Cobar) shot a 59 nett one ahead of Lewie, locals Pat Walsh 63 nett and Ozzie Smith 65 nett were well in contention.
Day two and the competition was just as fierce as the day before and Craig Dillon held his game together this time shooting a one over par round of 69, for a total of 136.
Neil Newton couldn’t make up the leeway and finished with a 70 for a total of 138, Zac Mitchell had 139 for the trip and finished a close third.
Lewie had another good round of 75 to finish in the top 10 placegetters.
A clear winner of the handicap was Greg Bowkett who had a 61 nett on day two for a grand total of 120 nett. Runner-up with 125 nett was local hero Tony Lewis. Three players tied for third place, the Newton boys and Porky with a total of 126 nett.
Pat and Ozzie managed to get into the top 10 with 128 and 129 respectively.
Many members volunteered their time and skills to make the weekend the success it was and the club is extremely thankful for their efforts. Also the golfers who came from near and far for the event.
The ladies played a two-person ambrose on Wednesday, Di Donald and Nicole Chambers 60.75 nett had a narrow win over Jenny and Rhonda Holmes 61.5 nett.
Coming up this weekend we have the Monthly Medal play-off on Saturday and Larsons Transport Day is on Sunday, the game is an American 2-ball medley select.
The following Sunday November 2 is twilight opening day and Don Lister is the man to see if you wish to enter the twilight competition.
Badge draw is $400 this Thursday night and a prize of $450 if you can sink the putt (one lucky person gets one go), the distance three metres.
