There wasn’t a great difference in the scores between the winners and the also-rans in Sunday’s American 2-ball.
First home was the left and right-handed combination of Chook Hawley and Barry Howell with 62.75 nett.
They were only two over on the front nine. The back nine not so good dropping away some ordinary shots early on, then par figures for the last five holes gave them the advantage over Tex Tomek and Mick Beetson with 64.62 nett.
They were slow out of the gates dropping shots on the first, second, eighth and ninth, much better on the way home with par figures.
Third place went to Mark Beetson and Wayne Holmes with 66.75 nett, solid golf from them all day except for the sixth, seventh and eighth where they could not make a par.
Ball winners were Andy Lane/Jamie Barrow 66.77 nett, Peter Murphy/Dave Bartley 67.75 nett and Mark Keighran/George Holmes 68.25 nett.
Pin winners were Chook with a double, Colleen Anderson on the green on the eighth, Rhonda Holmes 96cm away on the 12th, then George and Pat Walsh the remainder.
Graham, Eileen and Darren from Larsens Transport ‘The Goodies’ were the day’s sponsors which they have done for many a year. Thanks to that fine body of people for your support.
Saturday was the day of reckoning for the Monthly Medal winners in the annual play-off.
More trophies to go into his overflowing cabinet with 57 nett was our winner Dave Buggy.
Smooth sailing for him, most of them hit a squall on the 14th and 15th taking a baker’s dozen for those two holes then cruised to the line three ahead of young Tim Lewis who had a sniff of a chance but a double on the 15th and putting his second shot on the 18th into the clubhouse left him a bit short of Dave’s score.
Of the other contenders Pat 65 nett, Tex 66 nett and Andy 70 nett were well and truly outclassed.
Next weekend a single stableford on Saturday and Sunday is Twilight Opening and nomination day hit-off at 2.30pm.
Teams of four over nine holes. You haven’t got to be in a twilight team to play on Sunday. The actual twilight competition should get under way soon after.
Badge draw is for $500 Thursday night as is the jackpot for the lucky putter who sinks the nine-foot putt.
The ladies in the mid-week stableford and a win for Di Donald on 41 points, Lyn Armstrong 36 pts and Nicole Chambers 35 pts on a countback were the ball winners, pin winner was Rhonda Holmes and the lucky draw went to Betty Munro.
