o Local golfers Jeff Leek and Andy Lane.
A strong field of 26 players in the first of the am Sunday ambroses. Quite a few newcomers tried their hands at that thing called golf.
At the end of the day victory went to a couple of wily old veterans in Codge McCarthy and Ron Monaghan, two under par off the stick was easily the best scratch score of the round.
That gave them a nett 28.25 and a fistful of schooner vouchers. Warren Murray and Rex Vane were one over par. After an average start they finished with 30 nett and were awarded a handful of vouchers.
The best of the rest with 31.75 nett were Luke Smith and Jason Shone who hit an almighty wind-assisted drive on the fifth which fair dinkum finished a hop/step/jump away from the green easily surpassing Dang’s long drive the previous week.
Pin winners were Darcy Smith on the second and Jamie Barrow over the cowal. The ball looked likely to finish in the hole but came up a little short. Barrow’s putt lipped out bringing back memories of a similar thing 20 years ago.
Standing on the fifth tee was a shattered man and he played a shocker out of bounds adjacent to the ladies tee. He needs a partner in a fortnight’s time, any takers?
The ladies have a few regulars on Wednesday for their nine-hole competition. Rhonda Holmes with 21 points was the week’s best.
Nicole Chambers and Dolly Ryan 19 points apiece and Di Donald with 18 points were the pick of the field. Lots of good scores in the Twilight with 51 points the best followed by another team on 50. The results were to be confirmed yet.
No Saturday golf last week but this week we have the ‘Shoot Out’, fifteen players have qualified and they get under way at noon.
Sundays for the next few months will be the a.m. ambrose.
Thursday nights badge draw is back to $200, a lot of good money ($700 plus) can be won by the perfect 8 foot putt if your number gets drawn.
