Council’s Development and Environmental Services manager Timothy Riley has confirmed that an upgrade of this under-surfacing is part of this year’s works program.
“The current surface which was put down when the playground equipment was installed has deteriorated over the years due to exposure to the weather, especially the sun, as well as from vandalism,” Mr Riley said.
“We have delayed the upgrade until after the school holidays as the playground will be closed for approximately three weeks to allow us to install the new under-surfacing.”
The shire currently has $22,000 allocated for this project in addition to more than $100,000 which has been spent on shade sails in O’Reilly Park over the last two years.
Installation of the new under-surfacing, which will be bark chip to Australian Standards - similar to the new playground in Davidson Park, is expected to start in mid to late February 2015.
