This year’s golf trials will be held on Sunday March 22 at the Warren Golf Club. The trials are open to both male and female players in the Far West region who turn 12-18 years in 2015 (i.e. born from 1997 to 2003). From the trials a squad of about eight athletes will be selected.
Those players who gain selection into the program will receive regular high-level coaching aimed at preparing athletes for regional and representative honours.
The program is supported by Jack Newton Junior Golf and focuses on further developing the athlete’s core skills along with their tournament play and handicap.
Players will have the opportunity to play in various regional tournaments, as well have the opportunity to practice and play on various courses located around the region including the use of the facilities at the Dubbo and Forbes Clubs.
“For junior golfers in the region who are looking to improve their game, they should be trialling for a position in the Academy golf program,” said FWAS Programs & Development Officer Jarrad Linton Harland.
“The trials are open to all junior golfers in the region, male and female, who have a current handicap.
“In the past we have had athletes start with relatively high handicaps but after one to two years in the program, under the guidance of our Head Coach, they have halved their handicap if not more, so players should not be too worried what their current handicap is, just as long they are committed to their golf.”
“In addition to encouraging junior golfers to trial for the program, we are also seeking a golf program manager to assist our Head Coach.
“The Academy will provide ongoing training and mentoring for anyone who would be interested in coming on board as the squad manger for the 2014 program.”
