In a nail-biting finish the Bogans drew with the Aussies to take out the title for 2014/15.
Fortunes ebbed and flowed all afternoon and with two holes to play the Aussies led by one.
Neither team played the eighth with any great success, three points apiece, come the 9th and misfortune for the Aussies when Brad and Ron put their shots in some very difficult places.
Nicole scored a comfortable two points and the boys could only contribute one point. The Bogans managed four points for the hole to draw level and finish the season with 24 points.
Just the one point in front of Aussie Hotel on the same mark was Dunlop Devils and Divas who lost to Larsens Reckless Drivers. Joining them on 23 points was Neil Earthmoving who beat the Slim Dusties and Team Elite also on 23 points who got around Kevin Martin Plumbing.
It was a four-way play-off for second place in Sunday’s closing day. Margie Spicer, one of the heroines for the winners, was a tower of strength sinking many crucial putts over the season particularly the one on the eighth in the last round.
Mim chipped in and shaved the hole on many occasions and Boots and Pat did the smoothing and emptied the cup. The competition went off without any great dramas thanks to Don Lister who ran the show and kept everything up to date.
The bar staff were super staying back late many times giving up their time to serve us thirsty golfers. Bronwyn and Jasmine are fairly new to the scene and fitted in very well.
Dave Bartley kept the course spot-on and lastly everyone that played deserved a medal for making the effort.
I would like to mention Dick McGuinness who had to stand down from the winning team for medical reasons and Uncle Pat got the call-up.
Allan Holmes, Mim Pateman, Margie Spicer and Pat Walsh make up the team of Bogan Bunkers.
Sunday was closing day and a dozen teams fronted up.
A countback was needed to decide the winners. Reckless Roughnuts got the verdict over Riverside Van Park, both teams on 45 points, third and fourth spots was also a countback and Team Elite won that over PPM Global, they had 44 points. In the play-off for second place the Twilight Team Elite were clear winners. Their team is made up of Rex Vane, Adam Lee, Warren Murray and Lyn Hawley.
Pin winners were Mandy Martin, a double to Dang Holmes, one each to Debbie Matheson and Chris Ryan for nearest in two shots. The Riverside boys were the weekly winners of round 17, they won heaps of them in the latter part of the competition.
Many thanks to Debbie, Jenny and Lesley for the hot snacks after the game.
A small field of six for Saturday’s stableford.
Rex Vane was much too strong with 39 points, Tex Tomek took the rest runner-up with 32 points and both nearest the pins.
The serious stuff starts on Saturday with the March monthly medal and Sunday is now the opening day, a three-person medley select with plenty of super prizes.
Badge draw is for $500 and the jackpot putt around the $700 mark.
