The much-needed pre-sowing rain arrived on Friday and continued through to Wednesday in the form of thunderstorms and sporadic showers.
Trangie agronomist, Rodney Kruger said the town received between 37 millimetres and 55mm.
“It was a bit patchy but very well needed. It was starting to bring up weeds in some places,” he said.
Narromine farmer James Hamilton said he measured about 5mm.
“It’s very timely and hopefully we’ll receive some more,” he said.
Farmers have started sowing as early as this week to make the most of the subsoil moisture.
“Everyone is getting seed ready. Some people are starting oats on this moisture, today I did hear a rig get going,” Mr Kruger said.
The Delta Ag Agronomist said there would not be as much canola around as last year.
“But we’ll see a little bit more (canola) than we expected,” he said.
Mr Kruger said now was about the time to start sowing.
Coonamble recorded 1.4mm of rain, Dubbo got 33mm and Coonabarabran got 26.2mm. At Walgett 6.2mm hit the official rain gauge, Brewarrina received only 4.2mm and Bourke had even less with 2.8mm measured.
