On Tuesday April 14 youth had a choice of a Totem Skateboarding Workshop in O’Reilly Park or the Young Life Water Sports Day at Rotary Park.
Totem Skateboarding Workshop was for all ages and abilities and those who participated had a great time and learnt many new skills.
The idea of sharing a skate park safely and emphasising the importance of safety equipment as well as respecting the skate park were ideas introduced on the day.
The children and young people who came along to the workshop learnt to be aware of others when using the skate park as well as learning new tricks. The demonstration put on by the tutors caused many oohs and ahhs and unanimous applause.
After the sausage sizzle lunch and the fresh fruit, which everyone enjoyed, prizes were presented and Youth Week merchandise was handed out. Thank you to Nyngan Barnardos Viv Cleaver and Ashley for helping on the day and especially Ashley for cooking the barbecue.
Young Life Australia held a fun day of water sports on the Bogan River with tubing, wakeboarding and skiing.
A great turn-up of young people ensured a successful event. A barbecue lunch was supplied for the hungry hordes.
The final event for Youth Week was held on Thursday April 16.
An art workshop was held at the Nyngan Barnardos office with the theme for the event “Walk In Our Shoes”.
This saw the creation of artwork on old shoes and boots pertaining to adolescent issues. The aim was to draw attention to issues faced by our youth and have their beliefs, values and worries displayed in a creative manner in their community. Lunch was provided on the day.
The finished artworks will be soon available for the community to view and appreciate.
These events were made possible by National Youth Week Funding, Bogan Shire Council, Nyngan Barnardos, Young Life Australia and Warren Youth Working Party.
