On Monday May 25 2015, Aboriginal elders Aunty Edna Weldon and Uncle Tommy Ryan raised the flag with pride at Bogan Shire Council.
Nyngan Local Aboriginal Land Council CEO Veneta Dutton said this week was very important to Aboriginal people, today we raise the flag in our community, tomorrow is May 26 we have National Sorry Day, and May 27 to June 3, 2015 is Reconciliation Week.
The Aboriginal flag being flown at council chambers alongside the Australian flag demonstrates we are coming together and as one community should be a symbol of harmony and inclusion so we can say we are walking together towards reconciliation.
A light morning tea was held at the Nyngan Local Aboriginal Land Council office where traditional food sources in biscuits and water were taste tested and enjoyed.
During this week the schools are holding activities and events as part of National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week, please contact them for more information on how you can be involved.
