Nyngan ladies league tag team clinched another victory against the Parkes Spacemen at Larkin Oval on Sunday. Parkes crossed first putting the pressure on until Ebony Blake put Nyngan’s first points on the board breaking the line with a fast try on the outside.
Sarah Walsh then steamed through to put Nyngan in front with a conversion to Petria Quarmby making the score 10-6 at half-time.
A great start to the second half with a quick ball to Rachel Fitzalan who crossed under the post to allow for an easy conversion to Petria putting the girls in front 16-6. A couple of quick tries to Parkes put the pressure on again and saw Nyngan trailing 18-16 with five to go.
A great tip-on saw Astrid cross on the wing allowing the girls to take the win 20-18. The girls take on their toughest match next week against Westside, so get down there early to cheer them on.
Sunday night saw the annual players’ auction take place with a great crowd at the Nyngan RSL Club.
It appears the most valuable players this season are Jacob Neill and the 2014 player of the year Ryan Rodgers. With many more crowd favourites being snapped up, the money could be anyone’s.
Another crowd favourite Simon Bartley had his magnificent mutton chops and head shaved all in the name of charity with over $800 donated to Can Assist. Congratulations to Simon, we all know how much he loved his facial hair.
Next week the Tigers are at home again against Westside. The Westside ladies tag team have not had a point scored against them this season. With the form our girls are in they may be able to change that. Kicking off at 11am it is sure to be a great game.
Following the girls the under 18s, reserve grade and then first grade. For a great day out head to Larkin Oval.
Reserves
Nyngan Reserves ran out against a much larger Parkes side which had been in recent good form beating a strong CYMS side in previous weeks.
Nyngan started with strong defence working the Parkes forwards to the ground and slowing down the play the ball.
This good work was not helped by several mistakes from Nyngan and not reading numbers in defence which allowed Parkes to score out wide to lead 4-0 after 20 minutes of play.
This lifted Nyngan and Derek Knight scored from dummy half to equal the scores at 4-4.
Parkes then asserted strong pressure just before the half-time break to score and convert to leave the half-time score 10-4.
The second half was much like the first with both sides having times where they looked certain to score but the scrambling defence held them out.
Justin Cox scored a good individual try for Nyngan through never giving up on the chase and the scores were locked at 10-10.
Parkes hit back to put themselves six in front and that’s where the scores remained 16-10 at full-time.
Nyngan’s best were Justin Cox, Andrew Donovan, Michael Bush and Derek Knight.
