Another beautiful day was had by all at the netball courts in Dubbo on Saturday with a mixed bag of results leading into the final series which commences at the beginning of September.
The Division 1 girls played Fusion Spar who are sitting just above them on the ladder. In the first quarter Petria and Mel were very accurate shooting, Emerson and Lucy were feeding the shooters with great passes into the circle and the defence of Hannah, Ebony and Chloe was brilliant. At the end of the first quarter Nyngan were down 6-8.
The second quarter saw one of the team’s regular shooters, Kasey go into goal defence to work with her sister Skye, and they were very strong on the rebounds.
Petria and Mel continued with great shooting and if they did miss, their rebounds were strong and successful.
Another feature of this quarter were the perceptive intercepts taken by Mel and Emerson. These girls read the play beautifully in the midcourt. Emerson continued feeding the shooters with accurate passes into the circle and Shaneal and Hannah supported their goal circle players reliably.
Kasey spent a fair bit of time on the ground because when she drives for the ball she puts in 200 per cent effort to get it but occasionally she finds the ground instead of the ball. Nyngan were down at half time 13-16.
The third quarter saw Chloe and Kasey shooting. The hold and lob is a natural part of a shooter’s game but it did not work in this quarter because of the height and determination of the Fusion girls.
The passes into the circle from Mel and Lucy improved and were brilliant, once they realised the lob needed to be used sparingly. Hannah, Skye and Eb were tireless in defence and Eb’s intercepts were exciting. Nyngan were down 20-30 at the end of three quarter time.
The fourth quarter saw the return of Petria in the circle to work with Kasey and the girls were very accurate when they were given the chance.
Emerson and Lucy continued to supply the shooters with great passes and Emerson continued with the intuitive intercepts.
Eb and Skye also continued with their relentless, tough defence.
The Division 1 girls ended up going down 27-42.
Results from other games were: Division 4 went down to the second placed team 28-32 in what was an exciting, edge of your seat game, the 12’s won 28-6, the 11’s won 32-28 and the 10’s won convincingly 34-3.
Next week Division 4 has the bye. At 10am the 12’s take on Apollo Diamonds and 10’s play St Bluey’s. At 11.30am the 11’s go up against Macquarie Milkshakes and B Grade will play St Troopers at 1.30pm.
The final game of the day is at 3pm and Division 1 will play Apollo Allsortz. So if you are in Dubbo next week please come down and see the Mighty Tigers in action.
