The Bogan Bulls have shifted back into their winning ways with a resounding victory over the Cobar Camels at Larkin Oval last Saturday.
Coming off some unexpected losses, the Bulls looked for injured forward Peter Broome at training for some motivational words.
The Broomey ethos of ‘just smash them’ provided inspiration for the forward pack to get back to the basics of the traditional grinding game the Bulls are renowned for.
The Camels rarely had possession of the ball as the Bulls’ forward pack were unbeatable in both attack and defence.
The Camels managed a few lucky breaks and the odd intercept try, but ball handling was not their strong point as they repeatedly lost possession.
The Bulls scored eight tries to the Camels three for a full-time score of 52-21. Declan Hoare was once again the fastest man on the paddock romping in three of the Bulls’ tries.
Dom Kennedy crossed the line once and had an awesome assist for one of Declan’s. New fullback James Hackney is slotting well into the line-up, adding another try to his tally.
Michael Cobcroft’s return from injury was bitter-sweet, scoring a beautiful try from a ‘chip and chase’ only to tear a hamstring as he crossed the line.
Dan Cooper subbed in and made an immediate impact, sprinting down the sideline nearly crossing the line, quickly resetting from the breakdown and scoring a try on the opposite wing to seal the match on full-time.
While the backs scored all the tries, it was undoubtedly the work of the forwards that so clinically demolished the Cobar pack. James and Tom Cleaver, Harry Holmes, Greg Grosden, and Bill McKillop are the unsung veteran heroes of the Bogan Bulls.
Newcomers Ty Robson and Joel Baker have cemented their places in the starting 15, while hooker Brett Moody continues to be the driving force of the Bogan Bulls forward pack.
The Bulls remain in third place on the ladder, marginally ahead of Coonambe, Bourke, and Gular.
With the Ag Expo this Saturday the Bogan Bulls will head to Brewarrina on Friday night for their second-round match under lights.
The Bulls need to beat the Brumbies to maintain their path to the finals and should be able to do so, but the Brewarrina team are always tough to beat at home.
There will undoubtedly be a big home crowd in Brewarrina on Friday night so the Bulls are looking for supporters to travel and level the playing field.
