The steam train locomotive was in town on Friday as a part of Transport Heritage NSW’s Great Western Tour.
The train (Locomotive 3642), built in 1926 and carriages built in the 1930s, provided a fantastic trip from Dubbo to Nyngan and back.
Sydney couple Murray and Deanna Simpson travelled from Sydney to climb aboard the steam train.
“We drove to Dubbo and caught the train,” Mrs Simpson said.
“We’ve seen a few steam trains.”
Despite the big drive for the event the Simpsons insist they’re only moderate train enthuasists.
Mr Simpson said they had caught a couple of steam trains from Sydney into the mountains and this was his first time travelling to Nyngan.
“It’s a lot greener here than we thought,” he said.
THNSW Chief Executive Andrew Killingsworth said the tour was to engage regional communities and schools along the way.
“Locomotive 3642 was an important development of express passenger power on the NSW railways and worked for much of its career in Central West NSW,” Mr Killingsworth said.
A number of locals attended the train station on Friday morning to watch the old steam train roll in.
