What a great week for our club. Lots of games played out on the greens and we would have had a lot more played if it wasn’t for the rain on Sunday but who cares the rain was very welcome we can play bowls any time and we can’t always get that rain.
To start off the week Tuesday’s golden oldies had 16 players and the winners on the morning were Mick McGlynn and Wayne Arandale. Wednesday bowls saw the return of Jim McGirr to the bowling greens in a big way and he teamed up with Steve Read to win that event. Also on Wednesday Marie Bexon defeated Alison Hamstead in the women’s consistency and Mick McGlynn defeated Adam Jermyn in the handicap singles.
On Friday Tom O’Neil and Phil Gibson did battle in the handicap singles going point for point and lasting 39 ends where Phil got there in the end. Also the semi-finals were played in the major pairs between Steve Read and Andrew Reynolds playing Rex Vane and Nic Gibbs. Steve and Andrew were the victors. This was a very hard game but anyone who watched the game would have to say that the game Andrew played was one out of the box. And on Saturday Barry Beetson and Sissy Beetson were the winners over Alison Hamstead and Cocker Williamson. This was a very tight game as well.
Now we are still looking for players for the twights bowls and the women have their President’s Day, a mixed triples event, on September 5. One game of 21 ends so please support this event as well. Also we have some tickets left in the 100 club. Ask over the bar for that. So if you are wanting to play in our social bowls through the week Golden Oldies names in at 10am Tuesday, Wednesday bowls names in by 2pm, Sunday names in by 10am, badge draws on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Next week I have a big announcement for a great family fun day and we are going to hold it on October 17 to help Canassist our local charity.
Well this week I would love to thank Max Healey for the great work he does for our town sports with his program on 2WEB at 11am Saturdays. So Max if you are reading this thank you from the bowlingcClub.
A bowler who loved his bowls went to church and asked the father, do they play bowls in heaven? The father said I really don’t know but I will find out for you so next week at church the bower asked, well father did you find out? And the father said I have good news for you and some bad news, the good news is that they do play bowls in heaven, the bad news is your name is down to play in the championships next week.
So till next week pop into the bowlo and have drink and a yarn because we love to see you there and if ever you would love to get into the game they play in heaven just give me a call Steve (0432 154 956).
