A huge gap to the runner-up Rex Vane on plus one, a bad start and a bad finish for him, Boots Holmes managed to struggle home in third place with minus one.
Sunday’s results were a lot closer with one shot separating five players.
Breaking a long run of outs with 64 net was Barry Howell. His third shot on the river hole was heading straight for the water when his ball hit the president’s brand new buggy and ricochetted back onto the green. The official term for that is a “rub of the green,” the unofficial term cannot be printed.
The winner’s cheque won’t pay for the damage done to the buggy.
Beaten on a count back was Pat Walsh with 64 net.
Tony Lewis was the best of 65 netts, a good finish by him as he got off to the worst start you can imagine dunking his brand new ball off the first tee.
Peter Murphy and Debbie Matheson were the other two players on 65 nett.
Chook had trouble over the cowal. Re-loading several times it only took him eight shots to complete the hole.
Pin winners over the weekend were Pat Boots, Dave Buggy, Debbie and a double to Mr Leek.
The ladies mid-week winner was Jenny Holmes. Her first on a Wednesday for a while with Lyn Armstrong next best.
Golf next Saturday is a stableford event and Sunday is a two-person ambrose medley select sponsored by Peter Grant.
Nyngan has two teams at Narromine for the veterans’ championships. Don and Ozzie scored 88 points for the two days and Peto and Tex 86 points. The winning score was close to 100.
Badge draw is for $1100 this Thursday. The jackpot putt was not won by Melanie Murray, a good shot by her just missed.
A foot closer this week and more cash in the pool.
