Dennis Henry Hall, 74, was given a two year suspended sentence and up to $4400 in fines after being charged with firing a gun that could endanger someone and other firearm offences .
Magistrate Stewart said the incident was too serious not give down a sentence of some kind.
Hall was charged with the offences in January when he spotted a utility vehicle on his Coolabah property north-west of Nyngan. Hall approached the vehicle and confronted the three young men inside with his son Stuart Hall. A confrontation took place and the shot was fired.
Magistrate Stewart said he acknowledged the context surrounding the incident. Hall reported 18 incidents of illegal trespass on his property in the lead up to the event.
Stuart Hall was also mentioned in on Wednesday. His hearing has been adjourned until September 1.
