BOWLS
Congratulations to Lyn Hawley on winning the Handicap Singles for 2016. Lyn defeated Doreen Read in this exciting game by 31/30. A very unusual game that was well worth watching with scores varying either way with Lyn getting a good lead only then to see Doreen advancing on her and to go past. Doreen advanced to 30 up while Lyn kept working on her score.

CRICKET
RSL v Aussie Bulls No.2
RYAN DESTROYS RSL
The Nyngan District Cricket Association is in celebration mode this week after uncovering a true talent in young leg-spinner Terrance Ryan. Ryan was the difference between two well-balanced sides on Saturday at Number 2 Oval as he caught the eye of representative selectors.
Winning the toss, RSL skipper Jack Lupton elected to bat and would have been pleased with the start made by Bill Berwick and Peter Lupton, who put on thirty for the first wicket. The two looked comfortable at the crease and the Aussie Bulls were frightened of the real prospect of 40 overs in the field in the heat of the day; a typically stoic RSL batting display looked on the cards. With opening bowlers Harry Holmes and Toby Miles proving ineffective, Ryan was thrown the ball and justified his skipper’s faith, creating immediate waves. He removed the experience Peter Lupton for 19 and tore through the middle order, bamboozling the RSL regulars with a fine combination of turn and control. At the other end, Stuart Barton removed the dangerous Jack Lupton and Tristan Dal Forno for ducks in what will surely be one of the overs of the season.
RSL finished all out for 57, with Ryan an incredible 6 for 19 off 8 overs.
In response the Aussie lost Stuart Barton early, but this brought man-of-the-moment Ryan to the crease who sought about steadying the ship. Some short bowling and a quick outfield allowed the two to put on 50 for the second wicket. Ryan was bowled late for a well-made 15, but the damage was done, with the Aussie winning by 8 wickets.
RSL 10-57 (P Lupton 19, B Berwick 11, T Ryan 8/6/19, S Barton 5/2/8)
Aussie 2-58 (T Miles 38no, T Ryan 15, T Dalforno 7/1/30, B Berwick 4/1/13)

Ladies
Western district golfers attend annual meeting
The Western Districts Ladies Golf Association held its annual general meeting at Wellington on Friday. The area includes about 45 clubs within a region bounded by Warren, Coonamble, Coonabarabran, Mudgee, Bathurst, Cowra, Condobolin and West Wyalong.
“We have it every year at Wellington because it’s so central for the Western Districts clubs,” president Anne Coates said.
The Cowra-based president would welcome more members. “We’d love to see more women take up golf in the district,” Coates said. “That’s the challenge for all clubs in NSW, not just Western Districts. “Every club is having problems getting young players because of time, everyone is time poor.”
Coates said a highlight had been their tournament, hosted by Parkes this year. “It was a good concept - we did it as a shotgun start, twice a day and it worked really well,” she said. “And we had about 180 players so it was a really good tournament and Parkes hosted it extremely well.”
SWIMMING
For swim of the season for Splashers
A big welcome to all Splashers for the 2016/17 swimming season, and a special welcome to those nine foolhardy souls who bravely made it to the opening swim of the season on Sunday October 9. Was the water cold? No. Was the water freezing? ABSOLUTELY! Nigel Swivelneck Tyack put his hand up for the wuss of the week by not even bringing his swimming gear, but he was joined by President Rollin Ron Lovett who piked out on the blocks and refused to get in the water after feeling a tiny splash of water. Due to concerns that there were icebergs floating in the water, and the possibility of penguins and polar bears making an appearance, the program was shortened to 30m, 50m and 100m, with slow times being the order of the day.
Results from Sunday October 9:
30 metre final: 1st Reece NT Tyack; 2nd Vicki Chicken Queen Cluderay, 3rd Dick Wireless Whiteford
50 metre final: 1st Dick Wireless Whiteford, 2nd Reece NT Tyack, 3rd Steve
100 metres: 1st Curly Col Cluderay, 2nd Steve, 3rd No third swimmer.
Congratulations to the swimmers above who featured on the podium, and to the other intrepid Splashers who braved the conditions and who deserve a mention being Lyn Mouse Fawkes, Curly Col Cluderay and Victoria Nemo Cleaver.
