Fairfax has become quite adept at starting new businesses, or buying small ones then nourishing them to maturity. It's also become quite experienced at selling them because it needs the money to invest in its legacy publishing brands. It's become quite a pattern – Trade Me, Stayz and now the current jewel in the group crown, Domain.
