Nyngan’s Grade 4 district bowls team have not been beaten this season (winning 6 from 6) and the next challenge is the zone play-offs. If they are successful the team of 12 players, with 2 reserves, will then go on to represent Nyngan at state level and that will be a great thing for our town.
The grade 7 players had a great win as well on Sunday, convincing winners over Cobar, this was a great win as well as the grade 7 players have not had a win in their last two outings, but it only made them stronger for next year and next week they will met Tottenham in Nyngan, last time they meet, Tottenham won 10 nil and I am sure that next week with the support of the home crowd they will be hard to beat.
Events coming up are the Golden Oldies are on every Tuesday mornings and names are to be in by 10am open to anyone who would love to play bowls on that morning, male or female we would love to see more bowlers there and if you would like to play in the Sunday morning Chicken Run, names in by 10am you will not need a set of bowls as we will lend you some

Bingo is on every second Tuesday and euchre on every Wednesday evenings names in by 6.30 pm with a jackpot of over $300 and the big one Friday night who will take on the Peking Duck ?
Good Friday Bowls are on and we need names on the board in the Club or just ring the Club open to everyone who would love to play or would love to learn how to play single nominations and we also have fish and chips for lunch $20 per player.
SUMO WRESTLING
Sumo Wrestling comes to the Nyngan Bowling Club this Friday night and what a fun night it will be, as wrestlers from all groups in Nyngan such as rugby league, the cricket club, Nyngan High School, the Rugby Old Boys and even the girls are having a go. They wrestle-off to then take on our Club Champion, Peking Duck. They don’t come any tougher than this athlete, he has been training by eating as many Chinese meals as he can. I said to Peking Duck that it is no way to train for this event all it will do is cost you money to buy new clothes and he said to me, “have you seen a sumo? They just wear a G-string”. I’m just glad I am not taking him on. Anyway the night starts at 6.30pm Friday April 7 with raffles and I am sure you will be entertained with Referee Rodney Robb and Judge Bill Webster, two of the most honest people you will come across, I think they are both JP’s but I could be wrong. Go the Peking Duck!
CARPET BOWLS
Two weeks ago we had quite a roll up for our mat carpet bowls, we put the carpet sweeper over and made it too fast to play on and many bowls didn't stay on. Our first teams were Jean and Olive up against Shirley and Marie, Jean and Olive won 11 to 4. Next up was Dorothy and Dawn who beat Shirley and Marie seven to four. They played in a four ends final which was won by Olive and Jean five to one.
Last week was another fun afternoon,m first up was Shirley and Doreen who beet Dorothy and Marie by a big margin of 10 to two. I think it was too much sideline advice, the next game was much closer when Jean and Olive lined up against Dorothy and Marie nine to eight. The play-off saw Jean and Olive beat Doreen and Shirley by eight to three. Jean has won three weeks on end and Olive two weeks. See you next Thursday at 2pm.
GOLF
Sam Keating 37 points snuck under the radar to win Saturday's stableford, five points behind Tex Tomek and Dave Buggy at the halfway mark. He didn't appear to have much of chance, all eyes were on the other two. While Sam was fast bridging the gap, a birdie on the 12 th and quite a few pars gave him 21 points for the back nine, the other pair faded away with Dave finishing on 35 points. and a couple of air-swings, Tex managed 34 points plus his usual Nearest to the Pin.
Matho won the other pin. Sunday was the Keno Four Ball qualifier and unfortunately I have no results. This Thursday night at 6.30pm is the Annual General Meeting. Our president Peter Murphy and his wingman Don Lister are both standing down. Pete and Don have both done a tremendous amount of work for the club, a lot of it behind the scenes where it is not noticed. They both have earned a spell on the sidelines.
Badge draw this week is up to $800, the Jackputt was worth $644 last week, Andy Lane had a stab at it without any success. The fixture booklet for this year is available at the club, thanks to Mr Blister and Mim for efforts. Golf this week is the veterans tournament at 9am on Thursday.
Saturday is the April Monthly Medal, Sunday is opening day a three person ambrose medley sponsored by Nyngan Innovations and Tim and Janine Tulenew, 12pm for 12.45pm start.
RUGBY LEAGUE
NYNGAN TIGERS
By Trevor Waterhouse
The mighty Tigers had their first hit out for the season under the new captain coach Stewart Mills when they took on Dubbo Macquarie Raiders in their annual trial game.
Troy Richards and his ladies league tag got the day off to a perfect start recording a 24 to 16 victory, the girls have great numbers with a lot of younger girls joining the squad to fill the holes left by the retirement of a couple of the old girls from last season. Well done girls.
Our under-18s were a bit rusty and were well beaten 44 to 16 by Macquarie. We were shown up defensively on a number of occasions but it’s nothing that can't be fixed and I'm sure the boys will bounce back by the time the season proper comes around. The first grade trial brought out plenty of positives for the Tigers with our boys showing a great attitude in defence for so early in the season.
Although we did some good things in attack, it was our defence which caught my eye. New signing Penny Cockasinga was impressive causing Macquarie all sorts of problems. He crossed over for two tries and made ground each time he touched the ball. Little hooker James Fisk was another stand out.
He plays well above his weight, he did some smart things with the ball setting up a couple of tries and was also extremely busy in defence getting through a mountain of work. Another new signing to catch the eye was half Robby Lane.
Rob slotted straight into the side and you wouldn't have known it was the first time he had played with the boys. Local boy Boo Howard took the step to first grade in his stride he was heavily involved from the word go and will only get better as the season progresses, Jacob Neill was also impressive as was Rob Gudgeon he's as mad as a two bob watch this bloke, he goes 100 100 miles an hour from the word go, and his aggressive approach has his opponents looking. Big Ricko was also good.
This weekend we go to Forbes for a trial on Sunday.
We will have a couple of our boys representing the Tigers in the Sumo Wrestling Challenge at the Bowling Club on Friday night. Rob Gudgeon and Mitch Rixon will step in the ring representing first grade. We will have Deano Jeffery and Zach Waterhouse filling in for their fathers who couldn't make the weight, to represent the Tigers Old Boys. Well done to those four blokes for putting their hands up to represent the club. I am sure our boys will do the club proud. But I think they have their work cut out to get around the bowling club's Duck Grimmond. Duck is a renowned sumo expert and will take a power of beating.
JUNIOR LEAGUE
Nyngan Junior League played host to the first round of Group XI JRL in Nyngan on Saturday. There was a massive crowd on hand to witness some great games of football, with age groups from under-6s through to under-16s taking part.
We have had an increase in player registrations this year, with god number across all age groups.
The mini league (under-6/7/8/9s) all played two games each on Saturday, with all kids looking like they were having a great time out there.
In the competitive age groups, the under-10s got off to a flying start running out 34-8 winners over Dubbo City Magpies, this was a great start for the boys, playing on the ‘big’ field for the first time. All players did very well, with plenty of great tries scored and some equally as good defence at times.
The two Jayden’s, Williams and Dunn caused Dubbo plenty of headaches throughout the match, threatening to break the line with each touch.
Nyngan forwards stood out lead by front rowers Max Smith and Jacob Martin, with hooker Shane Rose giving really good service out of dummy half.
The backrow of Brook Cadrakalagi, Seth Hancock and Bradley Fitzalan got through a mountain of work, with all three boys picking up well deserved tries. Zeke Hardy had his usual high quality game at five eighth, getting plenty of good ball to outside backs Josh Kearns, Colin Gibson, Tadhg Close and Riley Boney-Higgins. Well done to all the boys!
Under-10s - NYNGAN 34 (Tries: Brook Cadrakalagi 2, Jayden Williams 2, Jayden Dunn 1, Bradley Fitzalan 1, Shane Rose 1, Seth Hancock 1. Goals: Jayden Dunn 1) defeated Dubbo City 8.
Under-11s – NYNGAN 44 (Tries: Ty Boney 2, Hunter Carter 1, Jeffery Griffiths 1, Harrison Gudgeon 1, Jeremy Holmes 1, Gus O’ Neill 1, Mason Rope 1. Goals: Cooper Black 1, Ty Boney 1, Michael Cameron 1, Jeremy Holmes 1, Gus O’ Neill 1, Mason Rope 1) defeated Dubbo City 0.
Under-12s – NYNGAN 38 (Tries: Will Black 2, Isac Drady 2, Cruz Cook 1, Hunter Carter 1, Ty Boney 1. Goals: Will Black 1, Cruz Cook 1, Tyson Deebank 1, Cooper Black 1, Ty Boney 1) defeated Dubbo City 8.
Nyngan Junior Tigers Under 12s have well and truly put everyone on notice that they are a force to be reckoned with in 2017 by kicking off the season with a 38 to 8 win over Dubbo City Magpies. The boys were primed up to start the season on a good note in front of a huge home crowd and to show some true Tiger Spirit. And they certainly did just that with a stunning performance making only four errors in the entire game. Right from the opening kick off the boys were energetic in defence and dangerous in attack. They followed their coach’s instructions with great line speed in defence and produced their set plays in attack at the right times and were totally in control of the game from the outset.
Under-14s – NYNGAN 6 (Tries: Cooper Hunt 1. Goals: Harley Klante 1) defeated by Dubbo City 52. The under-14s started well against the Dubbo City side. Nyngan's big forwards, Heath Gough and Shannon Bourke, made some good runs through the ruck in the first 10 minutes. Nyngan's fullback Cooper Hunt scoured the first try through a clever kick by Aidan Birmingham which was converted out wide by new winger Harley Klante.
Nyngan's backs were starting to find room especially captain Roy Herbert who proved a handful whenever he decided to run. The sizes of the Dubbo City forwards and heat started to tell on the smaller Nyngan side. Nyngan started not getting numbers in defence and not sticking in the tackles allowing City to get a roll on score several try's before to leave the score at halftime 24-6. Nyngan defended well for long periods in the second half especially Lachie Marks, Digby Barrow, and Matty Bolam. Bradley Stanford and Aidan Birmingham threw everything they had at the Dubbo city attackers and defenders and were among Nyngan's best as well as Cooper Hunt, Heath Gough and Roy Herbert.
The final score ended up 52 - 6. There were good patches of play by Nyngan and when they get used to playing together they will match it with any side.
Under-16s – NYNGAN 20 (Tries: Benny Thorton 1, Cooper Ryan 1, Col-Rob Piper 1, Diondre Murphy 1. Goals: Benny Thorton 2) defeated St John’s 16. The under-16s was a high quality match that saw a replay of last year’s grand final.
Both teams threw everything at each other for the whole match with the result in the balance right up until the final whistle.
Nyngan’s frontrowers were outstanding, with Luke Purton, Charlie Holman, Tom Fuller and Khan McMurray leading the way.
Col-Rob Piper was probably the pick for mine, he was busy throughout, organising the troops well and tackling his butt off, also scoring a well-deserved solo effort try from 40 metres out, beating four or five tacklers along the way.
Captain Cooper Ryan and Sonny Knight both played their usual solid games, getting through a mountain of defence between them. It was a great start to the season for the boys.
All teams are on the road next Saturday, please check out our Facebook page for updates.
