One of the most successful trainers in the far west region and the dominant trainer at Nyngan, Robb took out the Nyngan Pharmacy and Carter, Lindsay and Webber Max Smith Maiden Plate (900m) but it wasn’t with the horse many expected.
The Main Man started as a hot $1.80 favourite and had Robb’s leading apprentice Clayton Gallagher onboard but it was $4.40 chance Laugher who scored victory.
There was only a nose in the final result while Lee Lunn’s Xander ($12) was third.
The win was Laugher’s first in start number four and was recorded with apprentice Chelsea Ings onboard.
Robb also won the Nyngan Bowling Club Class 1 Handicap (1100m) after War Groom ended his drought.
The gelding had not won since June of 2015 but after jumping out a $2.30 favourite with Gallagher onboard hung on to win by a third-of-a-length from Sinnendor ($6) and Secretwina ($7).
That victory was followed by a quarter-length win to Double You Owe Bee in the Nyngan Post Office Maiden Plate (1200m), with Gallagher again in the saddle.
The veteran trainer only missed out on four in a row by a slight margin with Three Rar edged out in the day’s second race, the Nyngan Dental Benchmark 55 Handicap (1300m). Rotal Society, trained by Barry Molley and ridden by Kacie Chater, won by a third-of-a-length from Robb’s Three Rar.
